KeymasterAgree fully. And to get to the other side of the world for the Chinese, they need aircraft carriers to carry their stuff. We need to put an eye on the weapons on those carriers. I see something every now and again.
KeymasterThere is this thing – talking about ecology and a clean earth in time of war. If anyone remembers, just recently the Israeli water desalination plants went off-line – from memory 6 out of 7 stopped working or were taken offline because of on algae bloom which would break them.
The end or rather the beginning of this story – the Israelis destroyed Gaza’s sewage handling systems, so raw sewage went into the sea where the desalination plants are – ergo, the algae bloom. But that is not the end of it. Israel then dumped vast quantities of a poison, name which I cannot remember, into the sea, to deal with the algae.
Same as my fear of a massive oil spill, the damage to the earth do not end even when the shooting ends.

I was listening to someone, I think it was Smoothie, who said that in the Black Sea the Russians take out superstructures, so if the ship sinks, the oil or other cargo remains undisturbed and simply goes to the bottom to avoid specifically oil spills. I sit in trepidation that one of these oil tankers get struck and we start having major oil spills. Who says a major oil spill is not a weapon of war.
Then, the Strait of Hormuz can open tomorrow, but there is no more infrastructure left in the region to do anything with a ship full of crude. It will take years to repair. And of course, the US is trying to stop every refinery everywhere. It is my opinion that if the Iranians say that if they cannot have their oil undisturbed, nobody can. And this is the idea of the hegemon as well. If we can’t have the oil, nobody can. In the meantime, the world is beginning to panic fiercely. I was reading some commentary out of South Africa where they just had a gas and diesel price increase that is un-absorbable by the citizenry and business, and unsustainable for a very shaky economy. ‘No Oil’ is now fast reaching the rest of the world.
One more .. Picked up somewhere that the US Navy is clearing mines (have cleared ALL mines) in secret and in the dark of night – low profile boats and such things – sounds like a fairy story to me.
OPEC I believe is kinda dead and of no account.
Sal? He is still kvetching on the 12 mile/kilometer? spelt out in the so-called Law of the sea – UNCLOS. There is no more international law and Iran declared that they will keep the whole region responsible. I believe that bit is crying for something that really does not exist any longer.
KeymasterThere is now a series of this MAGA guy out there, and it makes me just sad. I did a few projects in the south and of course we lived in Florida, so, these people were there of course up North Florida. But I cannot say that they ever made me sad. They were just people doing their people thing and a smile and a kindness soon got you a sweet iced tea if you could ignore the gun and pray the tea jar was clean. Lots of stories about the Southern Folk that still make me laugh today.

Yes, all of those that are now abandoning Venezuela sounding Oh so Holy,must just pick up their kitbags and go. ‘Yesterday’ they were all in favor, but forget things like the announcement of this ‘hemisphere’ is the US hemisphere. Little things, just now suddenly and for the first time, after this announcment, Maduro sends pictures from the jail … Just around this announcement Maduro’s son says Venezuela is doing the right thing.
Now we are waiting to see what will brew out in Brazil. These people will take their hemisphere back as they did in the ’70s. I see a lot of the writing now calling ‘Nuestro/a America’, i.e., our America. That huge stinky scandal on highly sophisticated right wing meddling is making a massive impact. The leftists (and left and right has different meanings in the LAC) people suddenly understand why they are losing elections.
KeymasterWell, that should make no difference whether they wanted to or not. It is their oil. Whatever they wanted to do with it within the Bolivarian revolution is their business .. no? And yes, they wanted to develop. But that is like saying Cuba and Brother Fidel never wanted to hold the Cuban revolution. Or, Iran does not really want to to hold onto the Strait of Hormuz. Or Nicaragua never wanted to really really go with their Sadinista revoltuion. Or Russia really really actually wanted to get their international bank trading accoumts stolen.
These were revolutionary movements against the US, who considered all of that their own back-yard.
But Venezuela in the Bolivarian Revoltution wanted and actually did for years, ship affordable oil to Cuba, to some Island Nations and others. They really wanted to use their oil for good, and for years, they did. They shared oil with the Cuban physician’s program and supplied their region with affordable oil, sanctions or no sanctions.

Yes Periol, as a deal it sucks and Venezuela could have developed their own industry if they were not under sanctions. Now, they are held in a state of abject colonialism, with the US writing every word that Rodriques may say.
Why should the US even try to worry about Venezuela if not one sanction has been listed, gold is stolen and every penny that they earn goes into US treasury accounts.
They may not sell a drop of oil to anyone, without working through the US. They may not donate oil to Cuba. It is therefore not their oil.
I had to read this a few times before it stuck in my head.
An average of $8.4 billion in yearly revenue for 1.5 million bpd produced also amounts to a much reduced share for the Caribbean nation. In 2025, with lower market prices and Venezuela forced to sell at a discount to circumvent US sanctions, the country collected a reported $18.4 billion from an average of 941,000 bpd produced.
So, these are very early numbers .. $18.4 billion in the bag under conditions of sanctions, vs a promised $8.4 billion in a US treasury account for masses of more crude.
Let me make a wild future prediction .. Venezuela will wait for Trump to leave his throne or for circumstances to change. They have in the past nationalized their industries and will do it again.

KeymasterThat was not bad at all Mr p. I have not watched Sal for a while and judging by this one, his mind started thinking a little differently. I was surprised when he said that insurance was solved just about days after the Strait closed. (But not security). I wonder what the ship’s captains and crew will say if one asked them who they are more scared of .. Iran, or US.
