🕊️ blessings, amarynth, i remember climbing through that day.  my stepdaughter took hold of my hand & said, let’s join him for lunch.  his favourites—let’s make all of them, let’s put candles everywhere & play his favourite music while we make it, but first, let’s put his favourite flowers on the table, & scatter petals all around the table & floor.  & after dinner let’s read his favourite poems  & then share our best our very best memories.

when i was in junior high i spent lunch hour & most afternoons after school as well as weekends in a bomb shelter with friends.  i had just moved from the country to the city.   i was too skinny to be considered attractive, i knew nothing, horses & some horse sense that was it, my family had no connections, somewhat predictably  i ‘fell’ into a circle of others also recently arrived: one from venezuela, caracas; indescribably beautiful with a stun gun wit.  one from beirut, also devastating but soft, with eyes & a smile to wilt snakes & vault the rest of us to experience love & peace @ first sight.  another was from tel aviv, beautiful also, in features similar to my friend from beirut, but possessing a completely different power.  all were wealthy, i was not.  all well travelled, i was not.   laying on the grass reading the clouds while my horse grazed was really all i knew for sure.  initially, horses were the only thing we had in common.  the afternoons spent in the ridiculous bomb shelter, built to qualm the fears of the universally acknowledged crazy mother from tel aviv (the first zionist i’d ever met)…we 4 began to try & make sense of our world.

venezuela—so different then; said to be perfection to match toynbee’s remembrances of cambodia.   beirut too, described then as the most beautiful city in the world & (with one obvious abstention), agreed by all convened a city to return to as often as possible, & to regret to ever leave, a treasure irreplaceable & unmatched.  & tel aviv, new, modern, nothing much, cafes, but none to match those in either beirut or caracas.  slightly bigger & only slighter more attractive than calgary, alberta, canada…lacking its mountains & fine long views.

dispersed.  seeds, seemingly spent, awaiting the fires to ignite rebirth.   🕊️

the televised side show has effectively focused debate to a sporting event, the age & criminal character of the 2 contenders, extinguishing critical investigation which might if allowed indite past actions—or expose the puppetmaster of both.
