❗️Highlights from the Russian Defense Ministry Press Briefing, August 10:

▪️Russian forces struck the Ukrainian army’s energy and transport infrastructure facilities, logistics centers, as well as UAV assembly and storage workshops

▪️Russian air defense forces shot down over 1,100 fixed-wing drones in the past 24 hours

▪️Ukraine lost about 1,300 troops in the special military operation zone in the past day

❗️What we know about the aftermath of the overnight Ukrainian drone attacks on Russia:

▪️Air defense systems intercepted and destroyed 456 Ukrainian fixed-wing UAVs over Russian regions overnight, the Defense Ministry said

▪️The drones were downed over the Bryansk, Kursk, Kaluga, Tula, Belgorod, Oryol, Voronezh, Rostov, Penza, Ulyanovsk, Saratov, Orenburg, Samara, Moscow, Krasnodar, and Tatarstan Regions, as well as over Crimea

▪️More than 70 UAVs were destroyed overnight over Kamensk-Shakhtinsky and the Chertkovsky, Millerovsky, Kamensky, Sholokhovsky, Verkhnedonskoy, Belokalitvinsky and Tarasovsky districts of the Rostov Region, Governor Yury Slyusar said

▪️Air defenses destroyed nine Ukrainian UAVs over the Tula Region overnight, Governor Dmitry Milyaev said

▪️Air defenses destroyed 16 Ukrainian UAVs over the Kaluga Region overnight, Governor Vladislav Shapsha said

▪️Air defenses downed 11 Ukrainian UAVs in the Voronezh Region, Governor Alexander Gusev said

▪️Industrial and civilian facilities in Nizhnekamsk came under a massive drone attack, causing fatalities, the press service of Tatarstan’s head said, adding that the region had declared mourning

▪️In the Voronezh Region, debris from a UAV ignited an outbuilding in one district, shattered windows in a private house and damaged heating pipes and a fence, Gusev said

▪️Fences and windows were damaged at two other private properties, while a facade was hit by shrapnel, with no injuries reported

▪️Windows were damaged at nine private houses in one municipality, two of which will require repairs to gas pipelines, while three cars and a tractor were also damaged

▪️In another district, a UAV impact blew out windows on two floors of a residential building

This is what I believe best explains Russia’s approach to the great ongoing war against the US, NATO, and their sacrificial Ukrainian proxies.

Because when you’re dealing with an empire in existential crisis, you must administer death by a thousand cuts in order to not evoke a trapped animal reflex in a beast who, at the very least, could destroy a city in a fit of fury.

Trump is reportedly prepared to drop the demand for a separate Iranian nuclear deal if Tehran fully reopens the Strait of Hormuz to shipping, the Wall Street Journal reports, citing US officials.

According to the outlet, the US president has spent recent weeks discussing with advisors the possibility of ending the conflict without a standalone nuclear agreement — Washington’s assessment is that after the destruction of three key nuclear facilities, Iran is unlikely to be able to rebuild the program during Trump’s presidency, and any renewed attempt would be detected by American intelligence.

Talks on reopening the strait have grown more complicated, however, after Iran introduced new demands — Tehran is seeking a definitive end to the war, the lifting of the US naval blockade, withdrawal of American forces from the region, sanctions relief, the unfreezing of Iranian assets, and billions of dollars in war reparations.

Trump has previously said American taxpayer money will not be paid out to Iran. Still, per WSJ, any agreement could include unfreezing a portion of Iranian assets and lifting the port blockade if Tehran fully reopens the strait.

Eurasia Group’s Gregory Brew said the Iranians are fully convinced Trump wants out of the war and is focused on reopening the strait — which is why they’re driving a hard bargain.
