This term “sanction” seems to me about the same as attainder. As such it obviously exceeds the power of decree in the US, and is specifically prohibited to Congress. Of course, that’s just a legal view…they can do it, and they do, the basic US laws notwithstanding. Whether or not it’s legal in the freedom-loving democratic Germany… ahjusdoanknow.
