He likewise provided a liberal education for the sons of the chiefs, and showed such a preference for the natural powers of the Britons over the industry of the Gauls that they who lately disdained the tongue of Rome now coveted its eloquence. Hence, too, a liking sprang up for our style of dress, and the “toga” became fashionable. Step by step they were led to things which dispose to vice, the lounge, the bath, the elegant banquet. All this in their ignorance, they called civilization, when it was but a part of their servitude.

(my bold) You will note that the modern methods are the same, but that Tacitus is selective about the cruelty, the raping of slaves (‘the bath’) and violence, the Agricola is History, but it is the canonical polite version…this is to say it’s propaganda of the light grey variety.

I thought that the “negotiations” were a fraud. Now it’s indisputable.  But now there are negotiations, as, after all, the goal of war is political – just like the non-violent negotiation, but more sincere.

Nicely put. As you say, “normal negotiations”. In this example it’s my view that the function of this, a mutually fraudulent posture of “negotiation”, was getting ready for the kinetic “negotiation”…each party making preparations for the fight that, as Berletic put it “continuity of agenda” essentially guarantees.  I’d put it more bluntly, the irrepressible nazi drang for world conquest, in opposition to the irrepressible necessity of sovereignty. In such a series of meetings, I admit, that there may be naive people who are sincere, but they only matter if they accept the ultimatum and lies. I think that “lost” is most appropriate though…because now people will die, treasure will be destroyed. Possibly the fight will be postponed again…but absent a celestial intervention….it’s essentially sure to take place.

Gunner actually got a bit rude to Uncle Ray…finger stabbing an’ all. Ahemsprized.

Peter Dale Scott uses, and explains, the term “negative template” to refer to what truths can be found in a large study of propaganda and outright lies. BBC and NPR contribute to the template. One starts with the assumption, or in the specific example the knowledge, that they’re lying. What’s not said, what is the implied intent of the lies…and so forth. I can well imagine that close personal association with a “true believer” (Eric Hoffer’s term, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_True_Believer ) in NPR etc would create disagreeable conflict! My sympathies, Friend!

I tend in one particular to disagree though…Brian says: “…this will continue regardless. Doesn’t doesn’t really care whether you believe it’s leading somewhere pleasant. It isn’t and it will continue being unpleasant until we ourselves change the outcome, the trajectory of all of this….[sic]” One may ask “who’s “we” and who has agency? Probably some might say that the “we” is China and Russia – and the Red Armies and economies… Ordinary ignorant and poorly educated nazi zone people have no agency and are in perpetual thrall – under surveillance and a delusional spell of very effective propaganda. They’re neither innocent nor especially guilty…just chumps.

Comrade Berletic has, also, an essay that is worthwhile. Notably his conclusion differs from that expressed in the video, which was that “we” can change things. Instead, in his essay, he’s realistic and blunt: “Moreover, Washington’s primary geopolitical objective must be understood clearly — it seeks primacy over all nations of the world. There is no negotiating with a party whose ultimate objective is the subordination and even elimination of those who seek to negotiate with it.

{Berletic continues} “Only through building up the military, economic, political, and social power required to defend against, deter, and eventually disarm the US of its global aggression can the conflict in Ukraine — and conflicts everywhere else — be brought to a just and permanent end.”
