Howard Zinn, iirc, told of a chance meeting in Europe between himself and a gunner in the US Air Force, they spoke of defeating fascism, and the gunner said no, this is not a war to defeat fascism, it’s an imperialist war.
It’s a matter of perspective. Zinn and his friend, despite their good “druthers”, were on the imperialist side, what a vast deception! Well, all war is based on deception, they say.

Nevertheless I recall that all effective strategy is indirect, and note that the Imperial Forward Operating Base in the zone is 100% dependent upon Imperial support. That support and indeed the Imperium itself is liable to end, as Turgidson said, “depending on the breaks”….and bearing in mind that negotiations seem to have begun between the Imperium and Heartland…the outcome of which may well decide the fate of zone Syria, and the future, if any, of the Forward Operating Base some insist on calling “Israel”.
