This fund replaced the old Oil-for-Food Programme and centralised all of Iraq’s oil export revenues.     Even after Iraq regained formal sovereignty in June 2004, this system was maintained. The Central Bank of Iraq still uses the FRBNY account for its oil proceeds, which are then auctioned domestically to provide dollars for Iraq’s import-heavy economy. This arrangement has given the U.S. enormous leverage. Washington can stop or delay transfers, impose stricter compliance checks, or restrict dollar auctions—as it has done repeatedly, most recently in 2022–2023, when U.S. Treasury measures twisted Iraq’s arms by limiting Iraq’s dollar liquidity, causing the dinar to depreciate and bringing Iraq back under the US thumb.

    🔻 Luke: And most definitely not on their own turf. If anyone had a chance to defeat Russia in East Europe it was Ukraine. I don’t think you could have a found a tougher opponent. Shame so many young men died. We wouldn’t last a week fighting on similar terms. No stomach for it.

    It’s also the surest way to send massive shockwaves into the US Citizenry. I would wager to think probably 80% of the masses think the US would steam roll Russia. Fighting a war with Russia could be the catalyst that crumbles the walls holding up the thin veneers of our society.
