BlockedI have been given several raps on the knuckle for abusing Twitter embeds – which apparently really slow down loading of pages for all. So unless jewel can find a work-around, I have two choices – just bite it and increase the refreshing of these threads, or go back to how it was before a month or so ago when I started heavily using these.
The embedded Twitters are useful as (1) reduce my work with several key points, videos, maps, graphs, and communicating persons which can all simultaneously appear at once, (2) we can view the video/audio directly on our site. How do you prefer it? Continue with the engaging embeds & just refresh threads after 20 or so comments, rather than usual 80-90, or go back to simpler pre-existing formats? Thanks

⭕ Lebanon’s president, Josef Aoun, has chosen betrayal as the cornerstone of his rule. Only months into his six-year term (ending 9 January 2031), he has thrown himself into the US–Israeli project, opening a confrontation with the resistance and shredding the last vestiges of his credibility. Once presented as a potential mediator, Aoun is partnered in blocking financial aid to Hezbollah, to reconstruct what Israel has destroyed, and has lied to Hezbollah, AMAL, and all those who stood against American and Saudi diktats.Instead of honouring his commitments, he has aligned with foreign patrons whose generosity (Saudi Arabia is very generous with the Lebanese president, according to former president Emile Lahud, providing a personal handsome monthly payment) flows to him personally while leaving Lebanon itself to pay the price.
By siding so brazenly with US–Israeli interests, Aoun has chained Lebanon’s future to instability. With almost six years still to run in his presidency, the country stares down the barrel of prolonged unrest — or, in the worst case, civil war. This is no idle speculation. Lebanon’s bloody past makes clear what happens when power is stripped of legitimacy. Aoun’s choice to stand with external agendas has emptied the presidency of sovereignty and turned it into a lever for others’ wars.
Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, with perhaps six months left before parliamentary elections, is a sideshow; the presidency is the immovable centre of power. And so the question must be asked: in a civil war, what would Aoun rule? Would he lean on takfiri militants spilling over from Syria, or call on the Israeli Air Force to save him? Either scenario exposes him as a president without a country, a leader willing to preside over fragments of a shattered state if that is what his patrons demand. Washington could, in theory, order its allies in Beirut to ease off, but this is unlikely.
Israel has every interest in a Lebanon pushed back into chaos, and Aoun has made himself the willing instrument of that design.

KeymasterLet’s think of shorter posts – perhaps that will be easy? Try what does not burden you and I’ll check.
Shorter posts but more – with fewer embeds each – so, you will make for example three posts instead of one – am I making myself clear as mud here? we may just be able to get away with that.
Then you refresh threads at your normal cycle? Worth a try ..

ParticipantI’ve taken to loading the Apocalypse thread first thing when I come to Global South. Then in other tabs I read the latest on the site. When I turn to the Salon the Apocalypse thread is loaded. I like the X embeds, personally. And the workaround of preloading the page before I’m ready to read it seems to work.
I would hate to see any reduction in content in this thread, and I would also hate to put more work on you, AHH.
Amarynth, the whole page takes the loading, not just the individual posts. So, less embeds per each post and more posts equates to the same load.
If reduction is the goal, it seems that shorter, and more frequent, threads would be the answer – depending on the work to start a new thread.

BlockedOk it is clear now. That description of shorter contents to help subsequent loading helps. And I do not need to use all embeds – many are short text-only that are as fast to copy and paste from Xcancel.
I personally love the embeds myself.
So let us try shorter content chunks, less unessential embeds, AND rethread around 40-45 comments (not as much work as the posts on main site). Will ask for more feedback around then, but that should do it. Thanks

⭕🔸 If Ukraine does not withdraw from Donetsk, the war continues.🔸 If they do withdraw from Donetsk, the remainder of Novorossiya ultimately petitions Moscow to join the Russian Federation via referenda — without a fight.
Either way, Ukraine becomes a land-locked rump state.
in response to:
🔻 SIMPLICIUS Ѱ: Some may think this entails merely withdrawing from some empty remainder of Donbass steppe. In reality, to withdraw from the rest of Donetsk “Oblast” would require Ukraine to fully abandon both Slavyansk and Kramatorsk cities–an almost unthinkable proposition.

🔻 Kathleen Tyson: Best outcome. Then rump becomes a Special Administrative Region of Poland to bring rump into EU and NATO without any messy, contested legal process.
🔻 C. Sallustius: The hard reality is that these territories are not some peripheral “steppe,” but lands long bound to Russia in history, culture, and language. Slavyansk, Kramatorsk, and the wider Donbass are not alien outposts but Russian-speaking heartlands that never fully reconciled to rule from Kyiv. To expect Moscow to relinquish them is to ignore both centuries of identity and the will of local populations who look east, not west. Ukraine can bleed to hold them, but the outcome is foreordained: either endless war or eventual absorption. What is portrayed as aggression is, in truth, Russia reasserting itself over lands that were always more Russian than Ukrainian
🔻 Ikkyu Sojun: The West once bragged about “isolating” Russia. Now, Moscow is dictating the agenda.
⭕🔻 Ivan Katchanovski: Zelensky’s officials turn on Trump: “This is a stab in the back,” a senior Ukrainian official told the FT, describing Trump’s shift. “He just wants a quick deal,” another senior Ukrainian official said. Oleksandr Merezhko, chair of the Ukrainian parliament’s foreign affairs committee, summed up the outcome of the Trump-Putin summit for his country in one word: “awful”. “It looks like Trump has aligned with Putin and they both might be starting to force us to accept a peace treaty, which means in reality capitulation of Ukraine,” he said. “The whole idea of the summit, as we were explained by Trump and Rubio, was to present Putin with a demand for an immediate ceasefire. And if he rejects this proposal there would be severe consequences for him,” Merezhko said. “Putin has rejected that by offering instead a ceasefire as peace treaty, and we don’t see from Trump any reaction, let alone severe consequences.”
Ukrainian officials said that Zelenskyy would not agree to hand over Donetsk and Luhansk — a long-standing Kyiv red line — but that he would be open to discussing the issue of territory with Trump on Monday and in a future trilateral meeting with Trump and Putin.
The prospect of ceding vast, populated swaths of territory that the Russian military never managed to seize would trigger “a lot of tension in society” according to Olga Aivazovska, head of the board at OPORA, a Ukrainian civil society watchdog. “It will also open the question of why we’ve been defending ourselves all these years,” she said.”
🔻 Armchair Warlord: Cue Dolchstosslegende, Western Betrayal, etc.In reality NATO practically gave Ukraine the shirt off its back… and is well within its rights to stop throwing good money after bad.

The move amounts to collective punishment: tens of thousands of Lebanese and regional Shiite pilgrims were stranded, MEA – replaced by Iraqi Airways – was deprived of its main source of revenue, and Lebanon’s sovereignty was trampled.By turning MEA into an instrument of U.S.–Israeli policy, Washington once again proves that its so-called “war on Hezbollah” comes at the direct expense of Lebanon’s economy, religious freedoms, and national dignity. This cancellation is not an isolated measure but part of a systematic effort to hollow out Lebanon’s sovereignty through financial and institutional capture. The same American pressure that crippled Lebanese banks through sanctions, restricted dollar flows to fuel inflation, and blocked foreign investment now extends to the flag carrier airline.
What Washington could not achieve through bombs and proxy wars, it is now attempting to achieve by commandeering Lebanon’s state apparatus. MEA today, like the banking system yesterday and the presidency tomorrow, is being reshaped into a proxy enforcer of U.S. dictates. In this model, every Lebanese institution is reduced to a lever of pressure against the resistance, even at the cost of national collapse. For Washington, weakening Hezbollah means subordinating Lebanon itself — forcing the state to turn against its own people, its own economy, and its own sovereignty

“I call on the Colombian people and all Spanish-speaking communities to remain steadfast in their determination to end the siege of El Fasher and to stop the selection and sending of mercenaries to our land,” said Kamel Idris.
This appeal followed the release of video footage allegedly showing Colombians fighting for El Fasher in North Darfur alongside the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
The Colombian newspaper La Silla Vacía reported that militants led by retired Colonel Alvaro Cejano and supported by the UAE-based company Global Security Services Group, in addition to participating in combat, are recruiting and training children in guerrilla warfare tactics in Nyala, South Darfur.
In response to Kamel Idris’s call, Colombian President Gustavo Petro wrote on his official social media account on X*:
“Young former soldiers and officers, do not sell yourselves. Fight for your homeland, not to die in foreign wars.”
Recall that the Colombian government officially apologized to Sudan in December 2024 for the involvement of its citizens in mercenary activities. At that time, the country’s president stated that all necessary measures had been taken to hold these citizens legally accountable.

There simply are few combat-capable carriers?
Or because they suspect they might be sitting ducks in a real war?

🔻 azraell_RP 🇵🇱🇮🇷🧯: In the current situation, carriers have ceased to play a significant role, only costs. This isn’t just true for opposition to major players, but the Yemen experience itself has exposed their weaknesses. One good hypersonic will end the myth. Yes, it’s a powerful force, on paper.

US seeks to “wrap up” Ukraine as it repositions for the resumption of war on Iran, esp. after Israel needed bailing out (again).First the Zangezur deal, now the redeployment of troops in Iraq.
links:
🔻 The Cradle: US forces redeploy in Iraq amid rising tensions: Asharq al-AwsatAsharq al-Awsat reports that US forces in Iraq have begun a new redeployment, shifting equipment and personnel between bases, including Ain al-Asad, in response to emerging security threats linked to rising tensions between Iran and Israel. A US official told Asharq al-Awsat the moves are “not wide in scope” but are tailored to a new security risk map, and do not alter the withdrawal agreement signed with Baghdad in 2024 that schedules an initial drawdown in September 2025 and full withdrawal by the end of 2026. Recent activity at Ain al-Asad included storing heavy logistical equipment and relocating sensitive technologies such as radars and early-warning systems to other regional bases.
The redeployment comes as Iran pressed Baghdad to help secure the border after reporting infiltration during its recent war with Israel. Iranian security chief Ali Larijani visited Baghdad but left dissatisfied, with Iraqi officials admitting they lacked the capacity to fulfill Tehran’s request. On 11 August, Larijani and Iraqi National Security Adviser Qassem al-Araji signed a memorandum on border control, which drew US objections.
Baghdad has so far maintained that the US withdrawal schedule remains unchanged. Iraqi officials insist the recent transfers are technical operations rather than an accelerated exit, while US officials emphasize the adjustments are part of coordinated security planning under the existing agreement.
🔻 WS: And time is increasingly of the essence given that Iran’s partners (Russia / China / DPRK) are now providing significant reinforcing armaments.
🔻 Lee Slusher: Absolutely. Tick tock.
🔻 Shivan Mahendrarajah: I don’t disagree, but evidence on types of weapons systems needed (esp air def & jets) is thin. Larijani tried to get Iraq to tighten air defenses but tough to do since Iraqi systems are basically non-existent. Iran is now patrolling Iraqi skies with UAVs
🔻 Lee Slusher: Agree. This is why I’ve thought, since just after Assad’s outster, that the plan was to cause enough instability there for Turkey to intervene. The US doesn’t have the forces. Not saying this is a good plan, only that I think it’s “the” plan.
links:
🔻 Daily Turkic: Donald Trump:“Turkey is a major force – which had not been worn out with war. They’ve built a very strong powerful army.” |media|

🔻 Low Voltage 🇺🇲: Turkey would be making a huge gamble, but they also have huge aspirations (an empire from Libya to the Xinjiang). This would be their chance to become a world super power.
🔻 WS: The Turks can no more build an empire from Libya to Xinjiang and become a world superpower than conquer Mars.Türkiye stands between Russia and Iran, and would be opposed by the titanic Chinese.
Türkiye may do something impulsive they live to regret, but nothing meaningful.
[but they may try. These are irrational times. And Eschatology informs Turkey will be dismantled. Wonder why, if they’re so rational and peaceful and stay outta their neighbors’ business??]
🔻 Caligula’s Horse: Sir – I say as sign of respect rather than any intention to demote – I presume you’re a veteran of many Atropian campaigns? It appears to me that in order to remedy the deficiency of ’12-day war’, some sort of ground component will be necessary to attempt to lever out the regime. Now it appears that to supply that ground component, revolutionary fires amongst Iranian minority populations will be stoked – primarily the Azeris. But what is Azerbaijan actual geopolitical/military situation? Because, even w/ the corridor, it seems to me difficult to resupply.
Or, at any rate, far easier for Iranian-Russian pincers to take the country than for Turkey to defend.
🔻 Lee Slusher: I think it’s a terrible idea, but so was Ukraine. War with China over Taiwan would be an even worse idea by orders of magnitude, yet the Pentagon is reportedly planning for it.Consider how ridiculous the 12-Day War was—relying on standoff weapons and Afghan saboteurs while Iran rained down missiles. But Israel won’t give up and therefore neither will the US. They see Iran as the weakest link in an effort to revive the US hegemony on which all of Israel’s maximalist aims, domestic and regional, rest.
I think the *goal* is to make Turkish involvement inevitable (not that Turkey wants this, would win, or that such a war would remain localized). US/Israel will continue to remove guardrails and to stir the pot. Azeris would play a role, but the Kurds, too.
The Zangezur deal is audacious as is. If it were to go uncontested, the West would use it as a pressure point, ratcheting it up to starve the burgeoning Middle Corridor and the existing North-South one. If there’s a war, then the other side is being “contested” or “tied down,” which DC considers a win in itself.
The empire is applying pressure where it can, and the options to do so are much more limited than they were in the past. Things become more desperate as this dynamic plays out.
🔻 WS: I appreciate this analysis, and believe it has much merit. But, in my view, it still all depends on the US being able to simultaneously project decisive power to a multitude of strategic hotspots.I am thoroughly convinced at this point that they lack such capability.
🔻 Seeji Sundarakshan: yes… didn’t the US take some 7 months to airlift stuff to friendly ME countries in 2003 to invade Iraq?!War with Iran would require 2-3 times of that…
🔻 WS: The overwhelming majority of the war matériel was delivered by sea, through the Strait of Hormuz. In 2025, it could not be done via sea nor air. US ships and bases would be highly vulnerable to Iranian missiles.
War against Iran is, plain and simple, a logistical impossibility.
🔻 Seeji Sundarakshan: So, all that the Empire is left with is the Israeli and British concocted sabotage and subversion Ops! 😏

This is how things are done, including in the ever-parochial United States, so often “exceptional” in our own mediocrity.
Well, Vladimir Putin flew into Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Alaska the other day and was greeted by an “honor guard” of… parked F-22s, a color party, and a small detachment of unarmed personnel in dress uniform, standing well back from the carpet. In fact I had to go back and review pictures of his arrival to realize they’d even been present for the ceremony at all, initially I’d thought there’d been no troops assembled whatsoever.
This is how it’s done in Russia for a visit of, frankly, far lesser importance. Xi Jinping is a powerful man but was just dropping by to watch a parade at the time, not negotiate a peace treaty.
I keep banging this drum. We saw this at the Army’s 250th birthday parade two months ago and we just saw it again. We aren’t impressing or scaring anybody by being ostentatiously unable to march in step, do basic drill, or organize straightforward military ceremonies when the eyes of the world are focused on us. South Korea and its ally the United States launched joint military exercises this week, including testing an enhanced response to North Korea’s increased nuclear threats.
The annual 11-day exercises, called Ulchi Freedom Shield, will be similar in scale to those in 2024 but adjusted by postponing 20 of the 40 field trainings to September, the South Korean military said earlier. These postponements come as South Korean President Lee Jae Myung seeks to ease tensions with North Korea, although analysts remain skeptical about Pyongyang’s reaction.
The exercises were a “clear expression of … their intention to remain the most hostile and confrontational” towards North Korea, Kim said. He added that the security environment requires the North to “rapidly expand” its nuclear armament, noting that the recent US-South Korea exercises included a “nuclear element.”

What is the purpose of these alliances? Protection? From who? Or to create battering rams the US openly uses against nations it targets for encroachment and eventually regime change?

Forgive us, Marwa, Motaz, Montaser,& the dozens of thousands already lost -along with the millions still trapped in this genocide- for being so late, slow, and complicit. https://t.co/wfS87ZiTox
— Francesca Albanese, UN Special Rapporteur oPt (@FranceskAlbs) August 19, 2025💠 @Palestinian Commie:
⭕ 🇾🇪🇾🇪⚔️🏴☠️🇸🇾🇺🇸 Yemen Ansar Allah Political Bureau: We strongly condemn the direct meeting held by the ruling armed group in Syria with the Zionist enemy in Paris. The meeting with the enemy comes at a time when the criminal Netanyahu has announced escalatory steps to occupy Gaza.
The meeting comes as the enemy continues to storm and desecrate Al-Aqsa Mosque, culminating in the announcement of the so-called “Greater Israel” project.
While Israeli hostilities against Syria continue, the hands of the new rulers in Damascus are reaching out to openly normalize relations with the Zionist enemy.
The public normalization of relations with the Israeli enemy by Syria’s new rulers is a blatant betrayal of the sacrifices and rights of the Syrian people.
It has been proven that the armed groups in Syria are merely tools operating according to external dictates serving the Zionist project.
⭕ 🇮🇷🤝🇧🇾 Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko during talks with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian:Belarus is ready to discuss any issues with Iran, from cooperation in food supplies to the military-technical sphere.

IH astutely identifies the source of undying western Hatred for Russia. It is due to her Orthodox heart. And it didn’t begin with invasions by the Teutonic Knights or Napolean or the latest Anglo-Zionists.. it commenced with the Great Schism of 1054. Soon thereafter the Pope launched, in conjunction with the blind Doge Dandolo of Venezia, the Fourth Crusade, which sacked and shattered Constantinople. Nothing new under the Sun. Is Russian hatred not merely the posited glue of the fragmenting EU but of the “Judeo-Christian” realm overall?
☝️ outstanding.
The longest, most barbaric and numerically costly theatre of the nazi internationale assault on mankind during WW2 was in the Asia-Pacific. China alone lost 35M (!). In all regards, the same task being attempted today, and by same Anglo-Zionist overlords, — to submit all civilizational-states simultaneously, was on the board back then. Note the steel behind his words. Just like Maria Z with Germany, graciously willing to forgive and move on, but asserting will never forget. IOW, this time, a repeat won’t end with a simple “unconditional surrender” serving as a period of reprieve, replenishment and repopulation for the Next Drang. Given the weapons at play, and what would entail for the cities of the Heartland, the outcome will be much much worse than Morgenthau Plans. Will the fascist Japanese, or Europeans, listen? The evacuation of survivors from the al-Masri home in Deir Al-Balah after it was struck in an Israeli regime airstrike shortly after midnight.
