ASEAN Seeks Coordinated Iran Crisis Response

Southeast Asian leaders convening at a regional summit on Friday are working to formulate a coordinated response to the Middle East crisis, with discussions focused on mitigating an energy shock stemming from the conflict involving Iran. The bloc’s oil import-reliant economies are the primary concern driving the agenda.

The summit reflects the region’s structural vulnerability to external energy disruptions. Most ASEAN economies depend heavily on imported oil, leaving them exposed to price spikes and supply volatility triggered by conflict in or near major producing regions.

A collective strategy, if agreed, would signal a rare unified ASEAN position on a non-regional security event with direct economic consequences for member states.

Russian Defence Ministry on progress of special military operation (2–8 May 2026)

❗️ In accordance with the decision of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, on the days of the celebration of the 81st anniversary of the Victory, all groups of the Russian troops in the special military operation completely ceased fighting and remained on the previously occupied lines and positions from 00:00 of 8 May.

Despite the announced armistice, the Ukrainian armed groups continued to launch strikes using unmanned aerial vehicles and artillery against the positions of our troops, as well as against civilian objects in the border areas of Belgorod and Kursk regions.

In total, there were 1,630 ceasefire violations.

Under these conditions, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation responded to ceasefire violations in kind. Retaliatory strikes were delivered on MLRS, artillery, and mortar positions. UAV control posts and take-off sites were hit as well.

Lula and Trump .. very low key.

We will continue to take action until the regime takes all necessary political and economic reforms.” I hope everyone understands how completely bizarre this is to say that Cuba threatens the national security of the US.

A few weeks ago in a speech, the Cuban leader, Miguel Díaz-Canel, stated the situation correctly. He said Cuba is not a failed state, Cuba is a besieged state.

The Russian phrasing in general indicates that they expect a truce violation and that they expect that they will hammer the center of Kiev. This is beginning to look like a done deal. May 9th is 2 days away. In terms of timing, we’re in the ‘warning hot zone” already.

Peskov : The ceasefire announced by Russia will be effective on May 8 and 9. Vladimir Putin’s Victory Day speech on May 9th will be ‘VERY IMPORTANT’. (I suggest we stand by for that one!) We’re on the brink of a Russian New Phase.

Today is a day to see what falls out.  There is something being crafted,  and I see it by looking at the data.  We have Axios publishing piece after piece and they are all in a weather balloon style.  No War, No Peace still is the order of the day.

Something about news and data:  We had the full alternative community making video after video and commentary after commentary on Iranian missiles into UAE.  Something that did not happen, was fervently ‘analized’. Be careful out there!   Anyway, a lot of weather ballooning and shade today but we are not ‘touching grass’.  Let whatever it is, expose itself.  The US Administration is still telling one lie after the other.  A one pager ‘agreement’ with Iran, completed within the next 24 hours or so will obviously not happen. Gaza: Israel has not fulfilled its agreements on the Peace Plan and Hamas will not disarm.  There is no ceasefire in Gaza, neither in Lebanon.  The chaos makers are now trying to find a way through their own chaos. Marco Rubio – ‘apparently the ‘fury’ part of Epic Fury is over‘ – ‘There’s no shooting unless we’re shot at first’.  ‘We’re not ATTACKING them’.  ‘This is not an offensive operation. This is a defensive operation’.  They are a humanitarian mission to free poor trapped civilians on innocent boats in the Strait of Hormuz.

And  ‘They have ALWAYS said they don’t want a nuclear weapon’.  ‘They just don’t mean it’.   He is off to the Vatican to go and re-recruit the Pope.  

NBC – 2 US ships crossing Hormuz were swarmed by Iranian drones, missiles and boats.  Pentagon – All attacks were ‘intercepted’.  The reason:  Both vessels had ‘security teams’ on board.  (Those are the two ships that turned tail fast and skedaddled back to the fleet, most of which is cowering in the northern Arabian Sea after these missiles landed a tad too close.

Greasy Pete Hegseth – The ceasefire is not over.  It is still in effect and only President Trump will decide when it is no longer true.  “We are protecting all the ships in the strait.” “As a gift to the world, the U.S. has established a powerful Red, White and Blue Dome over the Strait of Hormuz.
We’re doing the world a favor.”  We have a gazillian ships and airplanes protecting the strait.   Hegseth, claims the Strait of Hormuz is ‘clear for transit’ after those two ships sailed through it.  “It is important to note these ships were fired upon and had to dodge multiple drones, missiles and naval mines.”  Despite all this, he says ‘hundreds of ships are lining up’ and claims the Strait of Hormuz is open & Iran has been ‘embarassed’.

Also from Marco Rubio:  There is no oil embargo on Cuba.  Of course, there is a full embargo on Cuba and it has been in existence for many years.  Venezuela with a gun to their heads is embargoed from supplying Cuba as they did for many years against the blockade.

More from Rubio:  In an Alice in Wonderland moment, he asks for a re-do.  They want the Strait of Hormuz back and it must be the same as before the latest Imposed War.

Another night of massive Ukrainian drone attacks

➡️Drone attacks were reported all over the western Russian federation – as airports in Samara, Kazan, Nizhnekamsk, Penza, Ulyanovsk, Orenburg, Ufa, Tambov, Cheboksary, Orsk, Izhevsk, Perm, Chelyabinsk and the St. Petersburg’s Pulkovo reported closures or restricted operations during the night.

➡️From 15.00 to 20.00 alone, 114 Ukrainian aircraft-type UAVs over the territories of the Belgorod, Bryansk, Kursk, Kaluga, Ryazan, Smolensk, Tula, Oryol, Tver, Rostov and the Volgograd and Moscow region were intercepted, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.

➡️In Donetsk People’s Republic, three civilians, including a child, were injured by Banderite UAV’s.

➡️In Belgorod region at least 3 civilians were seriously injured in UAV attacks.

He is being ‘Assanged‘:  Judge sets next hearing date for Nicolás Maduro

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, are set to appear again before a New York court on June 30 at 12:00 pm local time, according to Judge Alvin Hellerstein.  The court also noted that Maduro and Flores agreed to exclude time under the Speedy Trial Act.  The postponement is intended to give the defense team time to review evidence and prepare pre-trial motions.

White House was on lockdown after shots fired a few blocks away – apparently an all clear has been given now.

Today Trump begged South Korea to join the war and asked China and ‘its allies’ to help.  Trump says he’s asked roughly a half-dozen other countries to send warships to reopen the  Strait of Hormuz, So far, none has committed. Trump even indicated he would use his long-planned trip to China to pressure Beijing to help with a new coalition meant to get oil tanker traffic moving through the strait — a notion that his treasury secretary later downplayed.

I guess if you don’t care about international law and rely on your gut, things happen.

The Russian Defense Ministry announced that a ceasefire will be declared on May 8 and 9 in honor of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.  “The Russian Armed Forces will take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of festive events. Russia, in connection with the declaration of a ceasefire, expects the Ukrainian side to follow its example,” the military stated.

The ministry also said that in the event of attempts by Ukraine to disrupt the Victory Day celebrations, the Russian Armed Forces will launch a massive retaliatory missile strike on the center of Kiev.

“Despite the available capabilities, Russia has previously refrained from striking the center of Kiev for humanitarian reasons,” the Defense Ministry stated.  Otherwise, the Defense Ministry will advance warning the civilian population of Kiev and employees of foreign diplomatic missions of the need to leave the city in a timely manner.

As this week is upon us, we stand at the beginning of Trump and Co’s announced Operation Project Freedom, where Trump, on behalf of unnamed ‘countries all over the world’, will guide their ships safely out of the contested waterways. This is after Trump and Co finagled (scammed) the US congress with a re-definition of how one counts 60 days to get out of their war powers act requirements. Hey Presto, a new name, a new 60 days and we kickstart an old old war.

Iran has not commented profusely but so far simply stated that this is a huge mistake, it will violate the ceasefire and the Strait of Hormuz will not be managed by Trump’s delusional posts. They are calm and resolute having said all that is necessary to say in the previous weeks of war and ceasefire. As the hours go by, there will be more statements as Trump’s ‘delusional post’ at the time of writing is not yet 24 hours old.

Larry Johnson says that Trump officials are working overtime to convince the public that this is a diplomatic move to try to compel Iran to allow freedom of navigation through the Strait.

‘Project Freedom will not include escorts by US warships through the Strait of Hormuz, but rather a coordinated effort by shipping and insurance companies’

OK, as far as I know, shipping and insurance companies do not have missiles, so it is anybody’s guess in terms of what underlies Operation Project Freedom. The quick guess is that the US is ‘begging’ Iran to fire the first ‘end of ceasefire’ shot.

In the region as a whole, the Gulf Petro-Sheiks have reached the end of their ability to govern. Under Russian guidance they are seemingly rescuing OPEC. It is hidden how badly the US bases in the Gulf countries were decimated (and they are decimated). Netanyahu beats his zionist breast and speaks about 2 squadrons (anything from 12 to 24 in a squadron – one squadron of F-35I stealth aircraft and one squadron of F-15IA jets purchased from the United States) and he wants to decimate Iran with his squadrons, while the carnage in Gaza, the West Bank and Lebanon continues. These major moves usually happen when Israel is taking a beating and in Lebanon, they are now taking a beating from Hezbollah.

Jeffrey Sachs says “If the war resumes, everything will be dramatically accelerated, magnified, and made horrendously worse in its short-term economic impact”. He also described the US government as “completely deinstitutionalized” and Israel as an “absolutely out-of-control Israeli military state.”

IRGC spokesperson General Hossein Mohebbi has warned that maritime movements in Hormuz that contradict the declared principles of the IRGC Navy will face serious risks.

Responding to a TruthSocial post by US President Trump, General Mohebbi emphasized that there has been no change in the management process of the Strait of Hormuz. He clarified that any maritime activity by civilian and commercial vessels will be guaranteed safety and security, provided it complies with the transit protocols issued by the IRGC Navy and proceeds through designated routes.

Conversely, any maritime movements that violate these established principles will encounter grave risks, and violating vessels will be stopped with force. Consequently, the IRGC spokesperson stressed that it is essential for all shipping companies and transport insurance providers to pay close attention to the official announcements and advisories issued by the Revolution Guards.

IRNA reported, citing the Iranian Army’s public relations office, that Iranian forces prevented the entry of US-Israeli destroyers into the Strait of Hormuz.  According to the Iranian Army, the move was carried out through a swift and decisive warning issued by the naval forces of the Islamic Republic.  Similarly, Fars reported, citing local sources, that a US warship was struck with two missiles launched by the Iranian Navy while attempting to sail through the Strait of Hormuz.  Fars added that the vessel was forced to retreat.

Fog of war is now the order of the day.  Be careful what you take as truth.

As we see the LAC heating up, Russia Ratifies Military Cooperation Agreement With Nicaragua

Russia has completed the ratification of a military cooperation agreement with Nicaragua, with Russian President Vladimir Putin signing the document on May 2, according to TASS.

The agreement, originally signed in Moscow on September 22, outlines several areas of military cooperation between the two countries. It includes joint training of troops, exchanges of experience and information in countering the ideology of extremism and international terrorism, cooperation between military educational institutions, and joint research on military issues.

Russian officials say the ratification of the document will contribute to strengthening military ties and expanding practical defense cooperation between Russia and Nicaragua in the coming period.

China’s legislation to its ‘teapot’ refineries to ignore new sanctions and to conduct their business disregarding these sanctions, is still making headlines among serious commentators.   Needless to say, if China ignores a set of US sanctions, the sanctions regime overall has had a gut-shot and becomes unenforceable.   We have this report out, but cannot confirm it.  “Fyodor Lukyanov, who is very well connected in Moscow, is saying the Chinese are undertaking a review to assess whether the US is, as the Russians say, ‘agreement incapable’.”

Russian Ministry of Defense:

🔹 Russia’s air defense system has shot down 507 Ukrainian drones in the past night.

🔹 The Ministry of Defense of Russia also announced that the armed forces of this country have targeted the infrastructure, ammunition depots and drone storage facilities of the Ukrainian army in 142 areas.

It is problematic for Russia with drones travelling far into Russia.  I saw a note .. sometimes Russia says the darnest things without fanfare but now, they are all changing to an internal commenting format and one cannot find the blogs and commenting platforms so easily.  Depending on memory here, the secure and safety zone that Russia is establishing now was planned to be 300 kilometers away from their borders.  Drones are flying much farther, and the note was .. ‘We will have to simply increase our security Zone’.    The possibility exists that Russia may not want to stop the SMO where they first planned that the SMO will stop as conditions on the ground has changed.

Given the sharp rhetoric with Europe, and the rearming in Europe, we may see a change in the Russian stance, and not only rhetorical.   Negotiations with the US?  As Martyanov said:  “It does not matter.  Russia negotiates for the sake of negotiations.”
