ParticipantAlistair Crooke expressed this morning his opinion that Iran as all the components for atomic bombs, awaiting the decision, a political decision, to load the necessary fissile material (aka “poot”) into the freshly assembled machines. Well, I’ve said this before myself, the NPT does not prohibit making all the bits, and it’s stupid not to have done. In the political realm having a “breakout” period that’s understood to be merely a few hours, is, at this phase, politically superior to having the fully assembled “live” machines. Of course changes of phase happen, eh? 😉

His brief review of the History is an example of the distorted myth many believed, and believe to-day, note no mention of Ethiopia or Spain “20 years of Peace” he says! But the tensions were real enough in the public mind being prepared for WW2 and US “involvement”… Speaking of tension, what about the UFO scare on the East Coast? Sound familiar? UFO’s then, UFO now? Big coincidence. Anyway, it runs almost an hour, fwiw I remember watching this on TV…

Not simply human affairs, but the geomagnetic shift, and weakening of the field brings the aurora to the equator…earthquakes, eruptions, storm track changes, the end of a cycle…actually a whole lotta cycles.
iirc insurance is an invention of the Chinese merchants, having to do with rapids and rafts and agreeing to distribute their goods such that the loss of a river raft was a loss or a cost shared by all. a cooperative invention. Otherwise one by one the merchants would be ruined, and then one merchant would run all the rafts as a monopoly… so in a sense that sort of insurance was anti-capitalist and if not communist, at least communal.

ParticipantWe may remember that George Washington was a surveyor as well as a destroyer of (Indian) towns…which is to say a speculator in realestate , and slaves. Very typical, destroy the owners and steal or invent title, survey, subdivide, shill up the “value” and sell. Then move on… And that the buffalo were exterminated to force the Indians to vacate, and the railroads were “granted” vast (stolen) lands, which were then exploited in land speculation. And recall that the industrial growth, the steel and machines, were based on exploitation of both the looted lands and the immigrant peoples…it’s been largely a racket from the Mayflower on…which then may be seen to dovetail to the land grabs the Orange fella, himself a realestate “speculator”, proposes. Now then, I object to the term “ponzi racket”, as Ponzi copied it from another. see> (the ostensibly fictional) The Financier : Theodore Dreiser : Free Download, Borrow, and Streaming : Internet Archive https://archive.org/details/financier_1109_librivox
Dreiser used to be in the canon…alas, gone like the breeze. His Financier may be artfully fictional, but I assure you it’s accurate so far as I know.

ParticipantReading Larry and Maria… Thanks!
Remarking that the County and the history too provides a clear lesson that it’s a nest of crooks running rackets, speculations, and frauds…County and Cities don’t have the slightest regard for anybody else. The fire department, LA City…well, I have a few stories from a now gone relative who retired from the LAFD… 😉 “Past the level of actual fireman and engineer” it was all politics…not ability.
There’s no excuse for not having seawater uptakes. Or empty tanks… except corruption and greed.

ParticipantOn the river I knew an arson investigator fella who used to say that about half of the fires were arson. He may have been right. In this case I note factors of evident lack of preparation, scale is overwhelming, and dry winds…quite possibly also arson in more than one place (I have witnessed an arson being set by teenaged kids, once), and the generally less prosperous population with increased density. The fires we see in SoCal seem to me normal seasonal periodic fires…in those hills, where I have hiked trails, the brush is such that it’s easier to crawl under than walk, and they’re bone dry, and very steep & rugged. I lived in Coral Canyon in 1970, I saved one of 12 puppies, and my motorcycle (in a fresh-ploughed field) – and then joined an old fella saving his already ablaze house. The County fire department truck and its crew loaned us, unwillingly, a 1 1/4″ hose and we had hydrant pressure. They simply watched us. We were a little upset about that. Once a fire-storm get’s going the fire leapfrogs miles ahead, you can get in a real jam with fire in front and in back. At school we had a student volunteer fire brigade, tanker built on a Studebaker buss frame with a packard V8, and an auxiliary pumper-trailer. I was an engineer assigned to the auxiliary pumper. We had fire drills with real fires and also smoke flares. At night! Anyway, I had a little experience, and that helped at Malibu. imho the County was unprepared, they could have done far better. Remarking that lack of hydrant water is an indication of unprepared condition. Further, near the sea there could be seawater pumps, as in ‘Frisco, that can feed the hydrants. These do not exist. SoCal is essentially a nest of rackets, and has been since the Europeans came. The big fellas are already calculating their realestate swindles…bet on it.

an irregular volunteer, I fought the Malibu fire in 1970…even the ice plants at the beach burned…one may cope, save a structure here and there…but that’s about it. Generally the old structure are old because previous fires have skipped over them, and these tend to be skipped again. This one’s worse.

Remarking that the Orange fella is doing what retreat of empire does… admit failure and try to re-group. I doubt he’ll have complete success, his “base support” seems shaky to me…they wanted the Constitution back, especially the Bill of Rights…instead they get dilution and ukase. He may get the turf, and lose his base.

ParticipantIran Deploys 800 km Over-the-Horizon Radar in Northwest Capable of Detecting US RQ-4 Global Hawk
“According to Islamic World News, on January 7, 2024, Iran operationalized an advanced over-the-horizon (OTH) radar system, named Nazir, in the highlands of Gilan province, located in the northwest of the country. This radar significantly enhances Iran’s integrated air defense network, providing a detection range of up to 800 kilometers. The deployment is strategically positioned to monitor northern Iranian airspace while extending coverage to key regional areas, consolidating its surveillance capabilities against potential aerial threats.”
