It seems that the tactic of manually engaging the armed guards resulted in the guards being unable to prevent the remote-controlled “torpedos” or “kamikaze boats” from blasting holes in the ship. I think we’re seeing an evolution of tactic. The fact that the ship was armed and disobeyed direct orders to stop or turn ’round may be significant in terms of the legality of the sinking. Also evidently, the fellas went out equipped to and intending to sink her. Resolute fellas. What “merchant” ship could afford to carry the mercs or marines and the weapons they’d need to counter this evolved tactic? They’d need at least 4 heavy machine guns and an anti missile system with operators…what 20 + guys? Even then the land forces could simply bring more. I wonder how Yemen would do with a few surplus 5″ 38’s dug into the scenery? Effective range is about 16 km… Maybe we’ll find out…
