Let us consider the influences upon a simple ballistic object at, let’s say, the speed of a rifle bullet fired at 3000 feet per second.  They are coriolis, tidal, earth gravity, friction. Friction consists of two variable vectors…lateral to axis and axial. Lateral influence is what we call wind. This is unpredictable. In very fast bullets gunners speak of “a flat shootin’ gun”. Of course this is not quite true, but as a practical matter at the range of a rifle shot, say 200 meters, it’s close. maybe a centimeter of two. That’s because the bullet is so fast that there’s not time in flight enough to have wind as material effect on the ballistic. What it amounts to is that where optically one points the gun is where the bullet goes. Some rifles are slow, some are very fast. Now then, let’s consider the superfast…it’s about the same… This means that once the missile is pointed it will not significantly deviate….there’s just not enough time for lateral deflection by wind. The other factors can be calculated in advance once the target and launch coordinates and the time of launch are known. Inertial guidance can allow maneuvering to avoid interception during some of the flight by random, by avoidance, or both…but in terminal flight it’s pure ballistic.

I agree with the observed detonation blast wave generation immediately prior to contact maximizing effect. In fact that seems also necessary as chemical explosives are in this context, slow. That would also be the case in atomic examples…they too take a little time to detonate…as they use chemical explosives to make the poot go pop, so to say…;)
