Participantfwiw: i remember the name change. he’s smart, i’ve followed him randomly. over the years i’ve never doubted that he’s smart, thorough, not afraid of heavy homework, or of working for months to no avail. foremost, he has a keen sense of good ground & how a battle will end. something @ the beginning of 404 i appreciated. i’ve never felt wishful thinking was a fault he suffered or backing the wrong side of fight or getting badly sucker punched.
it strikes me working for CIA @ this stage would be like signing up for ukraine: either you are a starving latino, a high-jacked ukie, or you sold your soul to satan years ago, long before epstein. & if that was the case, brian strikes me as smart enough between then & now to make himself worthless & ineffectual rather than a critic with some influence & therefore a target. he seems the kinda guy that would sense the cauldron. survival smarts. what’s in it for him? to go that deep for one side or the other, when the choice is black/white, good vs evil, you are either philby committed or you’ve sold yourself short, waaaay too short & know how the party ends & that you are above all expendable. a smart guy, even some pretty dumb guys, @ that point in the play realize the only option left them is suicide of your choice. that choice being the sole option you may hope to control.
