We are waiting for Iran’s action as the Israeli strikes in Lebanon are not stopping and in fact, getting worse.  Here is the start of the action:

The Central Command of Khatam al-Anbiya Headquarters announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz to shipping and maritime traffic, citing the United States’ breach of its commitments under the MoU signed to end the war. The statement also pointed to continued Israeli violations of the ceasefire in southern Lebanon, which it said had resulted in the killing and displacement of hundreds of thousands of people, as well as the occupation forces’ failure to withdraw from Lebanese territory in the south.

The command said the move marks the first step in its response to the enemy’s failure to uphold its obligations, warning that additional measures could be planned and implemented if the violations and attacks continue, with the aim of forcing compliance with the agreed commitments.

Formal Announcemnt:

The IRGC Navy reinforced the announcement, warning all vessels not to approach the strait or risk their safety.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson added:

• An Iranian delegation will travel to Switzerland to press the other side on implementing its commitments and to clarify how it intends to follow through.

• Talks on a final agreement are conditional on implementation of all five clauses of the memorandum. Iran has upheld its obligations; the other side is obligated to force the Zionist regime to halt its attacks on Lebanon.

• If any part of the other side’s commitments goes unimplemented, the entire agreement is at risk, and the other side must act quickly or the deal as a whole will collapse.

• “We did not sign a commitment to leave it unimplemented. Our approach is commitment for commitment.” If the other side fails to deliver, Iran will respond with the necessary measures.

This is the second time that Iran indicates that it will be to their own timetable.

An Iranian delegation, led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, will travel to Geneva tonight to meet with U.S. officials.  It seems this is a go – Iran’s negotiating team heading to Switzerland within minutes: Foreign Ministry spokesman.  According to the Foreign Ministry, Araqchi will ‘demand clarifications’ and follow up on the implementation of the U.S. commitments in the MoU.

Let us list the facts as many commentators are already saying the MoU is history.  Up at this moment, current local time in Beirut 4:56 PM, the MoU is very much alive.  The very first clause has been breached.  Iran has taken punitive action and closed the Strait of Hormuz as they indicated they will do.  Now the negotiators will determine if the breach is fixable (I think it is not as Netanyahu will continue his hellish killing spree).

If yes, the MoU will continue but the timing will slip.

If no, Iran will take further action and we do not know what that is.  It is only at this juncture that the MoU will face issues.  (I think it will).

It is too early to speculate that the MoU is history.  The unease of the Iranian society (and there is a lot of anxiety agitating for a closure), will also hopefully dissipate somewhat now.

Even the Israeli media is now reporting that Trump is replacing his responsibility for the regional wars to Israel.  This is true, and JD Vance is the adVance guard for this exact message.   It is easy.  The US society is not accepting the messages from the Trump administration any longer.  (The AI must have told Vance exactly what to say and how to say it 🤔). So this administration has changed their tune to reflect that of the society.  There is an election coming.

Israeli Maariv now reports that this week the world witnessed a shift in the strategic balance of power in the “Middle East.  The US-Iranian memorandum of understanding makes Iran the strongest and most influential regional power in the Middle East.  Israel, which until now was the strongest regional power, has lost its ability to influence and shape the features of the Middle East region.  (More War on the Way!)

❗️From 13 to 19 June, in response to terrorist attacks launched by Ukraine against civilian objects on the territory of the Russian Federation, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation carried out one massive and six group strikes with high-precision weapons and strike drones.

💥 As a result, the strikes hit defence industry facilities, fuel and power, transport and port infrastructure used by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, military airfields, ammunition and fuel depots, territorial centres for recruitment, assembly workshops, storage and take-off areas of long-range unmanned aerial vehicles, as well as temporary deployment areas of Ukrainian armed groups and foreign mercenaries.

🔥Over the past week, units of the Sever Group of Forces have inflicted losses on manpower and hardware of four mechanised brigades, two motorised infantry brigades, one UAV battalion of the AFU, four territorial defence brigades, and two detachments of the Ukrainian border service.

▪️ In total, the enemy has lost more than 1,540 troops, 10 armoured fighting vehicles, 78 motor vehicles, three field artillery guns, and five electronic warfare stations in the area of responsibility of the Sever Group of Forces.

↗️The Zapad Group’s units improved the tactical situation. During the week, units of four mechanised brigades, an assault brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, two marine brigades, two territorial defence brigades, and one national guard brigade were defeated.

⚡️In Krasny Liman (Donetsk People’s Republic), during the week, assault detachments of the 25th Army continued to destroy scattered units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The units of the 67th Division seized 37 strongholds and liberated 251 buildings.

▪️ Over the past week, in Krasny Liman, the enemy has lost more than 185 troops and more than 45 pieces of weapons and military hardware, including 155-mm M777 howitzer and a U.S.-made HMMWV armoured vehicle, as well as 24 motor vehicles.

▪️ In total, more than 1,490 troops, 24 armoured fighting vehicles, 120 motor vehicles, and 15 field artillery guns have been neutralised in the area of responsibility of the Zapad Group of Forces. Five electronic warfare stations were neutralised.

↗️Last week, units of the Yuzhnaya Group of Forces advanced to the depths of the enemy’s defence and liberated Artema and Rai-Aleksandrovka (Donetsk People’s Republic). Over the past day, Yurkovka (Donetsk People’s Republic) has been liberated.

🔥Russian troops inflicted fire damage on five mechanised brigades, a motorise infantry brigade, an airmobile brigade, an artillery brigade, a mountain assault brigade, a UAV brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, a marine brigade, and a territorial defence brigade.

⚡️In Konstantinovka, during the week, assault groups of the Yuzhnaya Group of Forces continued to carry out combat actions to destroy the encircled enemy in the south-western part of the settlement and launch an offensive in the Nikolayevsky District.

▪️ During the week, 627 buildings were liberated from Ukrainian militants. More than 540 Ukrainian troops, more than 160 units of various weapons and military hardware, as well as 116 motor vehicles have been neutralised.

▪️ In total, the AFU lost more than 985 troops , 27 armoured fighting vehicles, 143 motor vehicles, and 23 field artillery guns in the Yuzhnaya Group’s area of responsibility.

Over the past week, units of the Tsentr Group of Forces have liberated Novy Donbass and Kutuzovka (Donetsk People’s Republic) as a result of resolute actions.

🔥Strikes were delivered at formations of three mechanised brigades, an assault brigade, an airmobile brigade, an air assault brigade, a UAV brigade, two assault regiments of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, three marine brigades, four national guard brigades, and the Azov special forces brigade.

▪️ The enemy losses in this direction amounted to more than 2,040 troops, 18 armoured fighting vehicles, 39 motor vehicles, nine field artillery guns, and two Grad MLRS vehicles.

↗️During the week, units of the Vostok Group of Forces continued active offensive operations. They hit four mechanised brigades, two assault brigades, five air assault brigades, four assault regiments of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, a marine brigade, and a territorial defence brigade.

▪️The AFU losses in the area of responsibility of the Vostok Group of Forces amounted to more than 3,140 troops, 20 armoured fighting vehicles, 53 motor vehicles, and nine field artillery guns.

🔥The Dnepr Group’s units inflicted losses on manpower and hardware of two mechanised brigades, a mountain assault brigade of the AFU, and a territorial defence brigade.

▪️Over the past week, the enemy has lost more than 330 troops, an armoured fighting vehicle, 102 motor vehicles, two field artillery guns, and 24 electronic warfare stations.

▫️Air defence systems shot down 89 guided aerial bombs, five U.S.-made HIMARS MLRS projectiles, eight Flamingo ground-based cruise missiles, and 3,909 fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles.

📊 In total, since the beginning of the special military operation, the enemy has lost:

▫️284 helicopters,

Formal:  BREAKING: The Iranian delegation will not travel to Switzerland due to continued Israeli ceasefire violations in Lebanon – Al Mayadeen

Members of the American delegation have arrived at the negotiation venue at the Buergenstock resort in Luzern, Switzerland.

Clause 1 of the MoU, not even 24 hours old:

1. The Islamic Republic of Iran, the United States of America, and their allies in the current war, by signing this memorandum of understanding, declare an immediate and permanent cessation of military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon, and commit not to initiate any war or military operation against each other henceforth, to refrain from threats or use of force against each other, and to guarantee the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Lebanon. The final agreement will confirm the permanent end of the war on all fronts, including Lebanon, and the other provisions of this clause.

I mentioned that the negotiations slated to start tomorrow are just being stormed.  The Swiss government announced that a meeting will be held tomorrow, Friday, with the participation of representatives from Iran, the United States, Pakistan, and Qatar, along with other concerned countries, in order to begin negotiations between Iran and the United States.  This ‘ol zionist spy is running his li’l legs off to get there.  A new circus was being created as Trump does.   Trump at the G7 already tried to shape the negotiations.   (See Proff Wolff quoted below).

“Brazil’s elections are a Brazilian matter.”  That was President Lula’s message to Donald Trump.  As Brazil heads toward a crucial presidential election, Lula has publicly warned Washington not to interfere in the country’s democratic process.  The warning comes after months of tension surrounding the Bolsonaro family, U.S. tariffs, sanctions on Brazilian judicial officials, and repeated comments from Trump criticizing Brazil’s courts.  Lula says Trump is free to support the Bolsonaro family if he wants.  But Brazil’s elections, he insists, belong to Brazilians alone.

I was waiting for Lukashenko to say something about the attack on the bus full of young Belarusian soccer players on the road for a vacation in Russia’s Bryansk Region.  The Ukrainian nazis attacked a passenger bus with drones as it was carrying a group of Belarusian children to Gelendzhik for vacation.  Lukashenko, having now had his very own Ukrainian provocation and invitation to enter war did not give specifics and stayed with general comments.   He said:  ‘It will end BADLY’ for those, who are trying to drag us into the war”  and “‘Today war isn’t just somewhere far away. Russia comes under one of largest Ukrainian drone attack overnight, calculations show

According to the calculations, 555 enemy unmanned aerial vehicles were shot down and intercepted

MOSCOW, June 18. /TASS/. Last night’s attack on Russian regions with Ukrainian drones was one of the most massive this year, as 555 enemy unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) were shot down and intercepted, calculations by TASS show.

An even larger Ukrainian drone attack this year was recorded in Russia on May 17, when air defenses downed and intercepted 556 UAVs.

The previous major attack in June was repelled on June 6, as 376 Ukrainian drones were shot down and intercepted, according to the Russian Defense Ministry. Prior to that, on June 3, Russian air defenses downed 354 Ukrainian drones. On June 11, 330 drones were shot down and intercepted, and a day earlier, as many as 326.

So far we know of the Kapotnya oil refinery, which was already struck on June 16, as well as damage to two shopping centres and a residential building.  Reports indicate that at least 17 people, two of them children, were injured  – Governor Andrey Vorobyov.  This is Moscow.

The skies were bright.  Last night, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in response to terrorist attacks launched by the Kiev regime carried out a group strike using ground- and air-based high-precision weapons, as well as long-range drones against facilities of the Ukrainian fuel and power complex used in the interests of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

As the result, the following targets were destroyed: a POL depot in Borispol-2 in Kiev region and the Zaturino oil refinery in Poltava region.  That was the group strike.  Here is an example of what is happening down on the ground:

💥 Russian Aerospace Forces crews launched strikes with FAB-500 aerial bombs with unified gliding and correction modules at temporary deployment areas of the AFU in Kharkov and Dnepropetrovsk regions.

➡️Objective control systems confirmed the target engagement.

▫️ Up to 20 servicemen of the 35th Separate Marine Brigade were neutralised in the Monachinovka area.
▫️Up to 10 servicemen of the 3rd Operational Assignment Brigade were destroyed in Kolona-Mezhevaya area.

‘The Memorandum of Understanding has been signed electronically by the President of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, and the President of the United States.

There will be no official signing ceremony on Friday, but two high-ranking delegations including Qalibaf and Vance will meet in Switzerland to begin the first session of the 30-days technical talks on implementation.’

🔺 During the JCPOA negotiations, I said that I would only support talks if the negotiations themselves were a form of resistance and struggle.

🔺 After the ceasefire, you saw that the enemy carried out certain actions, and we responded immediately. Two enemy warships that attempted to pass through were struck.

🔺 If our people hadn’t been on the streets, we wouldn’t have been able to speak to the enemy with this strength.

🔺 While negotiations were underway, they struck Beirut’s Dahiyeh district. We responded with an ultimatum, and Trump subsequently convinced Netanyahu to stop the attack.

🔺 As the negotiator, I am perhaps the least trusting person involved in these talks. I conveyed this to JD Vance as well that we remain deeply skeptical, but we have entered the negotiations with genuine goodwill.

🔺 When we moved to retaliate for the Israeli attack on Dahiyeh, the other side urged restraint. We said the strike would go ahead, and warned that any response would trigger a wider escalation. That was the approach that guided our negotiations.

🔺 We gained through negotiations far more than we could have through military action.

🔺 Iran’s strength has led the three European powers that breached the JCPOA, blacklisted the IRGC, and pursued regime change to seek talks with Iran on sanctions relief

🔺 Even if there is a final agreement and it is approved by a UN Security Council resolution, it would still not be trustworthy at all. Our guarantee is Iran’s power.

🔺 We didn’t allow America, Israel to achieve nine goals they had announced since the start of war

🔺 Our most important guarantee is our own strength and unity.

🔺 When the enemy’s logic is power, they must be disciplined, but when they come to the negotiating table, they must be addressed with distrust.

🔺 We will uphold our commitments, but wherever the enemy breaks its promises, we are ready to respond immediately.

🔺 If the US fails to meet its commitments, Iran will not be bound by its own either

🔺 Hormuz Strait will not return to what it was before, but this doesn’t mean that we intend to violate law

(Update – we now have) We do not have a formal version of the US – Iran MoU. There are at least 15 versions floating about. It is useless to discuss this without a formal Iranian version.  The White House has commentary but it is complete skewed to internal messaging.

There are more interesting issues to discuss. One of those would be that Trump Invoked the Defense Production Act almost on the same day the MoU came into real existence with digital signatures. We know that the US has drawn down its strategic gas reserves and we know that they are very short of ammunition, missiles and war materiel. And we also know that this MoU gained instant notoriety when Iran was within an hour away of pummeling Israel. The MoU so far saved Israel. It got the gas price to reduce to fill up the reserves and it gives time to gather upgraded weapons of war.

The MoU buys time. Trump is not at all interested in peace in West Asia. Note the casual comment that Syria could take over the fight against Hezbolla at the G7 meeting. Syria declined as far as we know. In the bigger scheme of things, there is a general understanding that Germany (of course not alone) is unable to re-arm and kick off another world war. It is generally accepted that it cannot. I am writing that now, and my answer is an unqualified YES, it can. More than that, the process is in the action stage.

So, Romans and Countrymen, lend me your ears: The MoU buys time. This war will continue, as other wars will continue. The empire has to stop dedollarization or better stated stop the others (Global South etc) from abandoning use of dollar, or change its economy and lifestyle. It has to stop multipolarity as a world value. It traditionally does this via war. This has not changed.

Russia and China is convinced that buying time now is a good call.  That is why they are not critiquing, seriously evaluating or pointing out merits and faults of the MoU document.   Both civilizational states offer help and are involved in discussions but neither of the two are shaping this discussion deliberately.  By their presence in talks, strong support for Iran, and known diplomatic stances, they do shape of course.  This is how they shape:

The Chinese Foreign Ministry: We are committed to facilitating the negotiation process between Iran and the United States. Humanitarian aid shipments will soon be sent to Iran and Lebanon.

Lavrov and Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi hold phone call:  The two foreign ministers discussed the memorandum of understanding between Iran and the US.  Sergey Lavrov expressed his support to his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi, on the understanding reached through the mediation of Pakistan and Qatar to de-escalate tensions in the region.  The Russian side also offered its unique experience and expertise to help resolve the Iranian crisis.

The Empire is an Empire. It is not a peacemaker. It is a warmonger. Never think a MoU and 60 days of promised negotiation will change these facts.

Iran-Russia banking link – a step away from Western finance

Iran and Russia are set to finalize the integration of their national payment systems within two months, allowing Iranian citizens to make purchases in Russia using domestic bank cards, Central Bank Governor Abdolnaser Hemmati said.

The third and final phase will connect Iran’s Shetab network with Russia’s Mir payment system.   The integration will reduce currency conversion costs, cut reliance on cash, improve transaction security, and support tourism growth.  The move is part of broader efforts to reduce dependence on SWIFT and US-dominated banking networks.   Observers note it could serve as a template for future integration with other BRICS members – a key step toward a multipolar payment system

The Shetab-Mir link not only facilitates trade but also strengthens Iran’s position within Eurasian financial architecture, reflecting growing banking ties between the two countries, Hemmati stressed.

The Iranian delegation is also set to discuss deeper monetary cooperation with Russia, including expanded use of letters of credit and improved settlement mechanisms, he added.

Oh boy .. just look to China – it is up and working.  If you want to use MIR for tourists and small transactions, do so, but put your major settlement mechanism in the technology that China has proven.  Besides all that, this should have been up and running before the US went to war against Iran.

A Ukrainian drone attack has struck a bus carrying a children’s soccer team from Belarus to a Russian seaside resort, according to acting Bryansk Region Governor Egor Kovalchuk.

The attack killed an adult woman who was accompanying the underage passengers to the resort town of Gelendzhik in Krasnodar Region and injured six others, including four children, the official said.

Last year China’s CIPS (China Interbank Payment System) was rolled out in much of Africa after Africa’s Standard Bank joined directly.  Payment is now direct for African and Chinese business, bypassing the US Dollar. This network now has members from African Export-Import Bank, First Abu Dhabi Bank, South Africa’s Standard Bank, Singapore’s United Overseas Bank, Kyrgyzstan’s Eldik Bank, and Chongwa (Macau) Financial Asset Exchange. As direct participants, these institutions can now independently process cross-border yuan transactions, unlike indirect members who rely on intermediaries.

This year, China’s much touted mBridge will be rolled out.

mBridge is a blockchain based payment system.  It is a central bank digital currency platform designed to process cross-border payments faster, cheaper, and without relying on the US dollar or the SWIFT network.

We don’t know the exact launch date yet, but it is reported that preparations are at an advanced stage. Fees are expected to be roughly half those of traditional payment systems. For smaller enterprises this will be just what is needed to easily complete business with China.

Who would have thunk!

The Iranians are still out in the street. After +100 days of solid support for their leaders and for their soldiers, after every leader profusely and with tears thanked the Iranian civil community for their visible support, of course they will not be quiet in relation to this document called a MoU (Memorandum of Understanding and sometimes called the Islamabad MoU). This is fast becoming a hated document. I know that Iranians talk and they are talking. After scanning hundreds if not more comments over the past hours, the calls and commentary is coalescing (for now).

This is what the Iranian civil conversation looks like:

• Iranians are cautioning one another to maintain their cohesion of the past 100+ days in the streets.
• Iranians are saying that their own cohesion cannot stop them and they will carry their dissatisfaction about the MoU to their leaders and negotiators and they will talk about what is clearly considered a very bad document – even though a final version is not published yet. What is there is roundly rejected.
• Iranians are warning about comments in the civil society of ‘death to xxx’, which has appeared for all negotiators, even towards Ghalibaf, which I found surprising.

There are thousands of commentaries. Reading as much as I could, this is how it coalesces:

• Segments want Iran to stop negotiations altogether. Should this cause the war to continue, they are ready. They say it is not worth anything to talk to the Western Satan.
• Segments want to work on the document to express the Iranian wishes clearly.
• Segments want to have clear direction and the slogan is

“The slogan of the whole country; only the Leader’s pre-conditions.” Internet commentators that tell you that the leader, Mojtaba Khamenei has expressed any public opinion at all up to now, are dreaming and gathering clicks.

The civil community is also warning one another very strongly to ensure that the riots that happened in the beginning of the year, when there was a US/Israel effort to violent regime change, do not find a foothold in the current conversation and conditions.

More to the leader and negotiator side of the conversation: I had all of the X channels of all of the leaders and negotiators front and center for the past hours. They are quiet excepting members of the Iranian Parliament are tearing the MoU apart, word for word.

The Iranian process in their civil society looks to me like the most massive ‘teach-in’ we have ever experienced in our world.

The conversation is world wide. Iran is talking with Russia and China on the actual and specific terms of the MoU. Leaders of the region, specifically Qatar and Saudi Arabia are in this picture. The rest of the gulfies seem to be stuck on stupid, and cannot decide to leave empire, or to hold onto empire who cannot protect them, or to sit on two chairs. It is unfortunately time to choose. If there are regional shifts, they are nuanced and of course Saudi Arabia and Qatar are all-out protecting their oil industry. Their oil industry is more important than Iran in reality and they will quietly flow to where the profits are.

The US is a carnival house with cage matches for Governance.  Trump threatens again: Trump warns Iran of ‘ULTIMATE ALTERNATIVE’ if deal fails — ‘Hopefully never to be used again’. The US is unable to continue the war in any big way. They look at something like Vietnam and their bases in the region are in smithereens.

Israel, as is customary, as soon as there is a threat to their human killing and bloodletting machine, enters a frenzy of spite and murder. They are bombing Lebanon, specifically Beirut, and killing Gaza and clearly saying they will not withdraw. And no, Bibi Netanyahu will not do what Trump tells him to do. They share responsibility and pass it on, one to the other, as it plays well to their internal audiences, and ensure, both of them, that war continues somewhere in the region. Residents of northern Israel were forced to rush to bomb shelters a staggering 16 times over the weekend! Israel cannot win against Hezbollah on the ground and flattening Lebanon by bomb will not make one iota of difference to the commitment of Hezbollah as part of the resistance axis. Hezbollah’s relentless drone and rocket swarms have completely shattered the Zionist defense! Of course Israel pretends that they bomb Hezbollah:

It was good to see one piece of truth appearing, and I was waiting for it. It is not accepted in diplomacy, but Professor Marandi said it: “… what Trump and the Pakistani Prime Minister said is not entirely accurate”.  There you have it!  I’ve been kvetching about this for weeks, since the so-called ‘negotiations’ started.  Someone must say it.  We have to question Pakistan’s role specifically as they themselves are in war against Baluchistan (different spellings for this area) which occupies the southeastern part of the Iranian plateau and borders the Arabian Sea. The region is divided among three countries: Pakistan, where it forms the largest province by area; Iran, primarily in the Sistan and Baluchestan province; and Afghanistan, covering southern provinces such as Nimruz, Helmand, and Kandahar. Who do you think Pakistan is working for?  I won’t assess on this level, but in the bigger picture,  they are working for a hopefully respected place in the developing multipolar world.  Prof. Marandi also reiterated: “The genocidal Zionists are blocking any agreement by bombing Beirut. They will destroy the global economy.”

To the best of my assessment, this is where we stand. I still call it No War/No Peace, excepting in Lebanon and Gaza.  Feel free to fight this assessment. 😁

Iran is grumbling about Araghchi’s speech. They don’t like it and they are out on the street, so some gathered in front of the foreign ministry chanting ‘Death to Araqchi, the dishonorable compromiser’. They do not like this MoU. Leaders are posting their word for word critique and throwing it out. People are saying .. none of this secret stuff. Show us word for word. But Iranians actually talk about these things and will talk it through. The bigger problem is this – would someone just buy this man child some marbles please!

This is miles away from what is written on the MoU.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei:

The Islamabad memorandum, which is being pursued, focuses on ending the war, and at this stage, it has been decided that there will be no discussion about the nuclear issue.

Regarding the exact time of signing the memorandum, we have to wait; although it will not be tomorrow, the possibility that it will happen in the coming days is not ruled out.

However, due to the other party’s instability, we must be cautious about any statements regarding this process.

In Iran, the conversation was regarding the ‘almost done’ MoU which is supposed to cement an agreement with the US.  I don’t see it.  I see no space for an actual agreement.  Many others don’t see it.  One of those is Alastair Crooke.  The empire is in an untenable position.  But, they will try and change this by non-agreement-capable negotiations, cheating and attempting to change at the last minute, i.e., chaos creation and media propagandistic methods, while trying to kill Iran economically ’cause, of course, they ‘don’t have the oil yet’.  Bad faith remains the hallmark.  The Pakistinis will not be left out and their FM is already on his way to Geneva having prematurely announced today that the MoU is ‘in the bag’.  The Iranian FM said:  “We are dealing with promise breakers.”  Nevertheless Iran is going to give it a go, so far.  They have to.  There is Russia and China to satisfy that diplomacy really ran out of the back door.  Tomorrow we will post the speech of Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, who gave an overview of where Iran stands in terms of the much-touted MoU, with the T-Shirt worthy slogan:  “Peace has never been this close”, and that is with their original requirements which is described as consolidating their win on the battlefield.

China has suddenly cancelled two high level meetings: one on digital issues and another with the deputy secretary general of the EEAS (the EU’s diplomatic service).

The Europeans have the mindset that China will fold if threatened with higher tariffs, as seen by rhetoric such as Macron pushing a higher set of tariffs on Chinese goods at a time where no other EU economy is doing the same.

No reason was given for the cancellation of the meetings but it can be easily inferred that China is tired of seeing the EU trying to act like third superpower of the world.

Iran’s semi-official Mehr news agency has published a list of terms that are reportedly in the draft memorandum of understanding with the US. It cites a source close to the Iranian negotiating team, but the details have not been confirmed publicly by either Tehran or Washington. The report says the text is yet to be finalised by the Iranian leadership. Until that process is completed, any speculation or reports regarding the matter should be treated as unreliable.

According to the report, the draft includes 14 points:

🔸Permanent and immediate cessation of war on all fronts, including Lebanon.

🔸The US’s “commitment to non-interference in Iran’s internal affairs” and respect for its sovereignty.

🔸Lifting of US naval blockade within 30 days.

🔸Withdrawal of US forces from around Iran.

🔸Reopening the strait of Hormuz within 30 days “with Iranian arrangements”.

🔸Suspension of US sanctions on Iranian oil.

🔸US and allies to draw up reconstruction plans for Iran “worth at least $300bn”.

🔸Sixty days of negotiations to reach a final agreement “based on nuclear issues and the complete lifting of” sanctions.

🔸Reiterating Iran’s commitment not to produce nuclear weapons.

🔸During the negotiations, the US will not increase its forces in the region or impose new sanctions.

🔸Release $24bn in blocked Iranian funds.

🔸Establishing a monitoring mechanism to implement the agreement.

🔸Final agreement to be approved by a UN security council resolution.

🔸The final negotiations will not begin before the release of half of Iran’s frozen funds, the suspension of oil sanctions and the lifting of the naval blockade. “Discussions about Iran’s missile programme and support for resistance groups have been definitively removed from the agenda.”
