For “firm” I would say “class”. People very seldom escape their class formation identity. For example, Larry tells us that he is a Son of the American Revolution….affirming for us and for himself his class identifier (so am I, however in my case, people say, I have changed my class, anyway I don’t wear it as a badge, or even think about it). Each class brings a canonical catechistic instruction from infancy. Escape is a brutal cathartic traumatic process, and having escaped one class, another is ever a bit of role playing, one never quite fits into the new and preferred class.  Generally, I think, Larry and his fellows at VIPS all have an uncomfortable inter-class status, which may be thought of as “rogue”.  What put me onto this line of thought was a lecture by a partner in a “communist” law firm…the substance of it being “You do not represent your client as an individual but as a member of a class.”  I wasn’t there, the lecture was given about 1943 or so.
