FWIW Helmer imho correctly remarks as to the inoperative fire suppression and inappropriate materials of fire zone. I can’t say about his specifics, but the place was evidently dangerous to start with. Well, there’s no point in setting fire where it won’t catch, and that does not change the crime, but adds to it. They say the boat lost power, which merely opens more questions. In maneuvering situations the engine room fellas are supposed to be especially on guard about such things, at least the fellas I knew from MEBA (US Marine Engineers Union) and Cal Maritime – they used to talk about it. It is almost always a very bad result, and is a well known pathway to collisions and groundings, fires, and spendy ways to end careers..I don’t quite see how a power loss could make the right turn…maybe strong current? Mrs P says God zapped the electrical panel.. I’ll buy that.
