Scientists have found a way to improve the mood of children with the help of dogs

The experiment, conducted at the Dog Cognition Center, involved 55 children aged 8-10 years. Children took turns playing with their favorite dogs, unfamiliar dogs, and toys alone. The results showed that the level of oxytocin-a hormone responsible for forming social bonds and emotional well — being-was significantly increased after interacting with dogs. Moreover, the effect was observed in contact with both familiar and unfamiliar animals. Interestingly, the dogs also had higher levels of oxytocin, but it was more noticeable when communicating with familiar children.

This discovery highlights the universality of the positive effects of pets on children’s emotional state and can be used to develop new therapies that support their emotional health.
