FWIW the academy is permitted and captive, especially in a fascist capitalist state, for several reasons – one is that it is a prison where the sovereign keeps intellectuals that might otherwise challenge power. I do what I’ve always done, nobody will repeat this history for us, so I read, save, share whatever strikes me as note-worthy…when I “worked” for the army I spent most of the days reading and taking notes. Used to bore my pals with it – they themselves were busy reading novels or getting stuff made for their boat, or motorcycle, (did you know that Schwinn made motorcycles? Yup, 61 cubic inch V twin…most of a “restored Schwinn 61” was made in an Army Depot! ) swapping jokes…or doing dope, or simply looking for things to steal. There were many good stories too. I miss those fellas, most are dead, I even miss the fellas I didn’t like.

The kitty escaped the bag in 1945. Trump’s a nitwit, zero technical or historical grasp. BTW the compact and light-weight atomic reactor for submarines is often, for good engineering reasons, designed for 93% U235 – so-called “bomb grade “poot””… Iran builds submarines. They may well decide to build atomic engines for these, anytime, it’s simply a matter of deciding to bother to do it. Same for bombs. Just now Iran basks in the warm glow of being a nuclear power and being NPT compliant, without the expense of building either atomic submarines or bombs – a best of both situations!

Officials say Qatar is suspending its Gaza mediation efforts between Israel and Hamas
➡️Qatar has decided to suspend its key mediation efforts between Hamas and Israel, officials said Saturday, after growing frustration with the lack of progress on a cease-fire deal for Gaza.

Spain, this evening.
People protesting against regional government because of its poor reaction and responsibility for recent catastrophic floods. Protest turned into violence.
Protesters filled the centre of Valencia demanding the resignation of regional government leader Carlos Mazon and chanting “Killers!”.
“Our hands are stained with mud, yours with blood,” read one banner. Some demonstrators dumped muddy boots outside the council building in protests.
Residents in stricken areas accuse Mazon of issuing an alert too late, at 8 p.m. on Oct. 29, well after water was already pouring into many nearby towns and villages.
The Valencian leader has said he would have issued an earlier alarm earlier if authorities had been notified of the seriousness of the situation by an official water monitoring body.🐻Borrell had more important tasks in Kiev.
