Russians have developed a set of scenarios for the use of a special Doomsday FPV drone designed to operate in conditions of radioactive contamination after a possible nuclear conflict.

Madagascar may be worth the trouble. Of course local food is good,but I was thinking also of ammunition, etc. There were in the Pacific Campaign those who said that taking certain islands was unnecessary…especially among the Marines who lived through the campaign. Okinawa, and Guam, on the other hand…and Tinian Island… And the Soviets in the Kuril Island Campaign, of course.

Modern missiles may eclipse the submarine method very substantially, missiles such as Oreshnik. Assuming EMP weapons, island bases may simply be de-energized and left to starve and to serve as lures the sub fleet can use to sink the relief ships, if any.
