Dear A, I very much agree with less screen time. Most unkind even to healthy eyes. Here are some which should help during the frustrating recovery period…

• activating voice-reader mode – many devices and sites offer audio reading of desired written material.. a way to stay on top by news junkie without straining the eyes
• warmer, less harsh lighting. Switching to yellow soft light bulbs makes a world of difference!
• Activating night-mode everywhere, including yellower lighting on screens. Monitors with Low Blue Light if avail is optimal. I bought a large monitor years ago for this low blue light and to blow up the font to larger comfortable size. Do what it takes to result in less white light glare and straining as possible. I do this all the time now since read so much. It also saves energy levels, headaches at end of day, etc…
• Frequent breaks. 10 minutes on screen at a time in first week or so, then long breaks off-screen..
• Until recovery, switching to news aggregators such as the Duran, Smoothie, [Wife!], etc.. instead of primary sources. Will save time using reliable secondary sources.
• since will be on post-op local steroids, boost immunity through good food, honey, sunlight (but early/late day with the least glare), FOLLOW EYE DOC ORDERS (!!) – can be especially difficult for stubborn men
• No bending down or heavy lifting or anything which can increase intraocular pressure (straining on toilet too! So plenty of fruits and water to avoid constipation)
• No rubbing of occasionally itchy eye-ball – if can’t control himself – wear hard shield patch during sleep
• Be optimistic as outcomes for these surgeries are amongst most successful since amongst most common on earth and so being treated by some of most experienced docs. For the similar cataracts, 85% regain function and recover within a mere 3-4 days…
