One of the benefits of the BRICS expansion is the growing allure. Many states are unfortunately just like their constituent humans — drawn by the sexy and “en mode.” BRICS has become a status symbol, like a bling bling for some — not so much as a vehicle of hegemonic escape, but it is simply cool and inclusive new organization led by non-westerners who welcome without restriction. Some see it as a shelter from hegemonic pressure too, to open negotiation space..

I think China is on to this, and is using an asymmetric approach to the Sahel crisis. Emperor XJP emphasized in his brief the nurturing of Peace and Harmony of inter-state relations. He threw a needed soft pebble to calm the lake:

….The gathering between BRICS countries and more than 50 other countries in South Africa today is not an exercise of asking countries to take sides, nor an exercise of creating bloc confrontation. Rather, it is an endeavor to expand the architecture of peace and development. I am glad to note that over 20 countries are knocking on the door of BRICS. China hopes to see more joining the BRICS cooperation mechanism….”

His words were listened to with care. And that leads to the core question: what were the newly accepted conditions of joining BRICS??

And then shortly after, Nigeria’s two top rivals on continent, and two next most populated states of Egypt and Ethiopia were admitted! This will work to dampen furore of Nigerians to be suicided within ECOWAS. How can they aspire to join when functioning as a hated local proxy for the aggressions of the fading Hegemon? They would really stick out like a sore thumb. They are already deluged with social media insults and shaming, unbearable to most aware Nigerians.

And soon, they will see Algeria, Zimbabwe, and other aspirants join too. This would further lower their profile, in spite of Nigeria having Africa’s top economy and largest population. So this Summit, if only for helping maintain the peace in Africa, will have been worth it….

PS — huh! Ama, after posting this, I see you posted his speech in entirety! I agree, a lovely message, the capstone of this conference. He did very well, promoting peace and tranquility amongst Africans. Without peace, stability and responsible good governance, Africans have no future….

So what gives? Perhaps MKB sees what the slick Junta wants “others” to see too. He is getting a better feel for this conflict now. However, his professional brief and comfort level is with Eurasia, not this neck of the woods. That being said, it is apparent to all now, this is an organized Junta, with apparently solid advisors, having learned from prior bitter failures, and has staying power. It has good nerves, and many allies around the world piling in….

But are they sell-outs, holding out for a slightly better cut of the plundering of their own? This is the premise of his interpretation of Zeine’s NYT article. Highly unlikely. What’s the saying about the medium being the message? And sending soothing imagery to raving barbarians who want to see fairy tales??

The pudding’s in steps already taken:

• the building federation and union state with the other three Juntas,
• immediate halting of French uranium and gold concessions, and booting their troops
• open contact with Wagner in Mali
• rapid movement of Mali/Burkina troops/planes into Niger,
• aid convoys (not only containing food) from neighboring Burkina,
• coordination via Mali and Burkina and Algeria and Libya with Moscow and VVP in person!
• Russian flurry of movements into extended region on the three sides of Niger (northward Algeria/Libya, westward Mali/Burkina, and southeastward CAR),
• and the three years transition period to return to civilian rule….

these words by Zeine and Junta rather appear a cute rope-a-dope, and well advised, to confound a gathering pack of hyenas. And it is a costless public fig leaf to a Hegemon in agony, consumed in many other fronts elsewhere, aching to savage and sack China, whilst loading and holding a steady gun in his direction, just in case.

Regardless, and we will see the truth soon enough, the good news is the utter contempt for and abandonment of pobre Frenchie by Uncle Slaughter. This informs recent frenzied solo French attempts to attack Niger via Algerian airspace.. By its lack of urgently needed action for these type of imperial policing missions, the Hegemon has doomed French posterity in West Africa.

Russian tentacles in Mali, CAR, Libya — all with access to Niger

More on Mali’s relations with Russia. Mali may be key to survival of the Juntas.. It took leadership of many regional demarches in progress – evicting the French, inviting in Wagner & Russian arms, initiating serious fight back against western-run terrorists, evicting the UN “peace troops” and staff, blocking Air France over its air space…. it is most strategically located and is “the big brother” of its region. A nation to watch going forward, with a logistics chain and established diplomacy with Russia…..

Are the French about to do the mindblowingly stupid and barge in solo?!! Carry the Imperial banner come what may, optics be damned? Without even the fig leaf of a black Uncle Tom alongside!

Their best option to reach Niger is not via Morocco, as Mali also blocks airspace, but via Libya then through Chad where they have bases..  stupid either way.
