On February 10, the government of the semi-autonomous Puntland province denied claims made by Deputy Information Minister Yaqoub Muhammad Abdullah in a February 8, 2025, article in The Telegraph in which he suggested that the region could accept Palestinian refugees from Gaza.

Puntland Information Minister Mahmoud Aideed Dir clarified that Abdullah’s statements were his personal opinions only and did not reflect the official position of the Puntland government.

“The Puntland government’s position remains firm in its support for Palestine. Somalia is a member of the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and will always support the Palestinians,” the minister stressed.
