A Time of Reckoning

Genocide as a measure of our individual humanity and the state of our civilisation.

The genocide in Gaza has profoundly shaken the conscience of people worldwide and sharply divided the positions of governments. Two opposing camps have emerged: those who back and support the genocide, and those who condemn it and take action against the United States, "Israel", and their collaborators – using whatever modest but legitimate means they have, such as demonstrations and protests.

The fact that the US‑"Israel" alliance continues to carry out atrocities is largely because it can do so with impunity. Many states still prioritise their so‑called "national interests" above all else. But genocide is not a commonplace, natural, or "business as usual" occurrence – it cannot be weighed on the same scales as trade or diplomacy. The genocide in Gaza has now become the gauge by which every individual, politician, leader, organisation, state, government, and society is measured: how do they respond to genocide? Do they oppose it, or do they enable it by silence or complicity?

This ongoing genocide has become the revealing factor – the true test of ethical character and actual civilisational development, not only of a single person but of entire societies and their institutions. This is not an act of moral presumptuousness. Rather, it is forced upon us by the times we live in: a time of reckoning, a moment to re‑evaluate the true state of our civilisations. As Pakistan's UN Ambassador Munir Akram rightly asserted, things must be called by their names.

Those people, institutions, and states that look the other way, show no interest, turn a blind eye, or claim (hypocritically) to remain neutral – they are complicit in occupation, terrorism, genocide, and injustice.

A Proposal for World Citizens

To gain the clarity that we, as citizens of the world, have a right to demand from our so‑called leaders, I propose the following: we send a form letter (by email) to the embassies of every nation on Earth. The letter would contain a clear message and a set of questions for the governments those embassies represent.

On this website, we could then compile a list of all the world's nations, noting what each has or has not done, and whether – and how – they have responded to our letter. This would give us, world citizens, an overview – much like a school report card – to assess the conduct of the world's leaders.

Sample Form Letter to Embassies

[The following is but a very rough sketch. Perhaps the letter should have a different tone and attempt to be more courteous? I'm no diplomat!]

To the Ambassador and staff of [Embassy Name],

Subject: Seeking your government's position on the ongoing Genocide in Gaza and regional escalation

Dear Sir or Madam,

Since 7th October 2023, the entire world has been witnessing one of the most brutal, ruthless, and unprecedented genocides in human history – carried out by "Israel" and its international Zionist and non‑Zionist collaborators. At the same time, we have witnessed the targeted assassinations of heads of state, organisation leaders, prominent politicians, scientists, journalists, and media figures, as well as the deliberate killing of civilians (including children) by the United States and Israel in Iran, Yemen, Lebanon, Syria, and elsewhere.

As citizens of the world, we seek clarity. We wish to know your government's position on these grave matters. Therefore, we respectfully pose the following questions:

  1. In light of the facts set out above, what concrete actions has your government taken – beyond issuing verbal, formal, obligatory warnings or offering mild, useless criticism – to stop the genocide of Palestinians and Lebanese, and to pressure "Israel" and its accomplices?
  2. Several countries, such as South Africa, Colombia, and most recently Spain, have taken clear stances backed by concrete actions against "Israel"'s genocide. Do you consider your government's record comparable to theirs? If not, why not?
  3. Many governments invoke the cliché of "national interests" to justify inaction or neutrality. By doing so, are they not implicitly admitting that for them, genocide is a commonplace, normal, and ultimately acceptable "business as usual" occurrence – not worth acting against? What is your government's view on this?

We look forward to your candid response. We will compile and publish the answers we receive, so that the citizens of the world may judge for themselves who stands on the side of humanity, and who does not.

— "Citizens of the World"

Invitation for Further Input

On this site, we would gladly welcome additional proposed questions and ideas for such a form letter to the embassies of the world. Please share your suggestions, and together we will build a more powerful instrument for accountability.

By Any Means Necessary

…excepting acts of indiscriminate violence and barbarism

"…We declare our right on this earth to be a man, to be a human being, to be respected as a human being, to be given the rights of a human being in this society, on this earth, in this day, which we intend to bring into existence by any means necessary. …Anytime we know that an unjust condition exists and it is illegal and unjust, we will strike at it by any means necessary. And strike also at whatever and whoever gets in the way."

— Malcolm X (28 June 1964)

When annihilation threatens, every living being fights to survive. That is a law of nature.

Yet humanity has long sought to temper war's savagery.

International Humanitarian Law rests on five universally accepted principles, legally binding in all armed conflicts:

  • Distinction – Attack only military targets; spare civilians.
  • Proportionality – No attack whose civilian harm outweighs military gain.
  • Military Necessity – Use only force needed for a legitimate goal.
  • Humanity – No weapons or tactics causing superfluous suffering.
  • Honour – No perfidy (e.g., false surrender or misusing protective symbols).

Also prohibited: torture, sexual violence, attacks on hospitals or cultural sites, biological/chemical weapons, landmines, cluster munitions, blinding lasers, and "no quarter" orders.

But in Gaza – and in the wars waged and the murders committed by the Hegemon, its vassals and its Zionist appendix – these principles are void. International law, diplomacy, and human decency lie shattered. Economic collapse and atomic annihilation loom. The UN is impotent.

When law fails, diplomacy dies, and governments look away, other means become necessary. But those means must be discussed openly – amongst the Peoples… before we descend into barbarism.

As Lowkey notes here: "You only achieve meaningful change when you bypass the levers of government."

Frantz Fanon: "Decolonisation is always violent" – not as a strategy, but as a reaction to colonial violence.

Malcolm X's "by any means necessary" meant using all available tactics (including self-defence) for freedom, dignity, and justice – not random violence. It called for action, self-determination, and adaptable means: education, political organising, economic power.

So, we must now define all means of resistance at our disposal – and what they can achieve.

While keeping in mind:

– Action born of compassion for the suffering of others, not revenge for one's own suffering, is most powerful and lasting.
– Unity of the many is formidable (as we see now on the streets of Iran, Palestine, Yemen, Lebanon).

Thus the means we seek require, first: unity and cohesion.

Unified resistance can forge collective identity and a new humanity, freed from the trauma of subjugation.

Now let us seek the most effective means together – before the only means left are the ones we hoped never to resort to.

As stated, we need to organise resistance on a local and country and global level. I have no ideas or experience in this but we need to connect with others to begin the process of organised resistance. So here I stand.

The song chronicles the madness and rabid abandonment of mankind to the commands of "The Masters of War" as Dylan put it. Let us rage without hate! Let our boots be on the ground while we build a new world. Never again should we be left out of these decisions. Every major decision in our world must hear our voice. Let's start.

We used to have "Fridays for Future" — an international climate movement for young people to skip school and protest against climate change. But what we are witnessing today makes climate concerns seem negligible.

As a university student, I would like to propose that we young people use every first Monday of the month to skip classes and protest against the looming WWIII that is being launched by our European governments against Russia and that is being launched by the entire West (which absolutely includes "Israel") against the rightful peoples of West Asia.

We should form some local committees to organise precise programmes for our protest marches for these Mondays and insist that this war is not to be waged in our names… but is being waged by certain governments, organizations and individuals, whose names we should make visible on placards over and over again.

Doing nothing makes us culprits too! We need to take active positions, show ourselves on the streets and call out the real culprits. And we young people should do more because it is our future that is at stake!

Maybe we could call these Monday marches "Do or Die Day".

I am grateful for such a call. To be honest, I waited some days to write a commentary, because there were only a few, and I didn't want to "stand out". But later I felt ashamed.

Watching every day the videos of the people in Gaza amidst the rubble and the people on the streets at night in Iran, who join together, even under the falling bombs, I suddenly felt overwhelmed with shame. These people are fighting for us! And here I am, along with so many others, living in relative comfort, not assisting them in any way. And staying silent!! Which makes us complicit.

But most of us, who are on their side, really don't know what to do… so at least there is this collective space to get us at least thinking about some ideas.

I wish there were also some kind of website connected to the people of Iran or the Axis of Resistance where we could voice our support and ask them directly what we can do for them.

The II Open Dialogue, 'The Future of the World. A New Platform for Global Growth,' has concluded at the National Centre RUSSIA in Moscow. Maxim Oreshkin, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Russian Presidential Administration, summed up the event, saying its key difference from last year was a stronger focus on turning ideas into practice.

"The difference between the second Open Dialogue and the first is that we are paying more attention to the implementation stage of the proposed ideas. A mentorship format has been introduced: Russian businesses and international companies are beginning to work with the essayists and involve them in their projects. They are genuinely helping to implement the essayists' ideas from the standpoint of business, society, and humanity as a whole. So the format is definitely evolving and becoming stronger, and next year another step forward will be made."

"A person must always remain at the center – their development, the realization of their potential, and the preservation and extension of active life under the demographic changes we are witnessing today. A person's active life is becoming increasingly significant not only from the point of view of life itself, but also from the point of view of the development of our societies and the economy."

Markus Weidt  ·  Berlin, Deutschland

I envy the people in Iran, on the streets together at night. They have a culture, a people, a country, a civilization, a home.

We in Germany are homeless, we in Europe are homeless, we in the West are homeless. We don't belong anywhere. We have lost our civilization. And there has been much evil.

I propose to all the Europeans here that we openly and loudly bid our farewell to "Europe"… Let us write a requiem for this Europe together so that we can move on to a better world and create something new and more just in its place.

Bark if you are alive!

Count me in.

I subscribe to the idea of students all over the world organizing the first Monday of every month in the service of a Global Axis of Resistance.

We should not only have protest marches, we should also be learning about what is really going on in the world today and understand the history and circumstances behind and relating to these events. So I believe it would also be beneficial to organize seminars for these Mondays — on the genocide in Gaza and the other crimes against humanity being committed today. And these seminars could, if possible, feature invited experts, or at least we could show podcasts on large screens and organize discussions afterward. These could become the Monday Meetings.

Triyanto Widodo  ·  Semarang, Indonesia

We very much need to have an exchange among the peoples of our world, because many of our leaders do not represent the majority of us, and they simply come to power because of their money and connections.

Take for example our President Prabowo… who last year said that "we must also recognize and guarantee the safety and security of Israel". That entity that is carrying out a genocide in front of all our eyes! He also supports trade with that entity and wants to join the OECD. In the meantime he has not undertaken a single concrete step in support of Gaza.

This infuriates me and many other citizens. This is not because of our ties to the Umma — this is because of our human ethics! Most of us believe Indonesia should never even discuss recognizing a genocidal entity and instead should condemn it and cut off all trade with it. But we are not taken into consideration, and our country is not seeking sovereignty. It remains a puppet of the financial world. We need to go out into the streets and protest more.

The peoples of the world all need to make their leaders accountable. I like Mr. Marzbaan's idea of creating "report cards" of each country based on their position toward the Gaza genocide. I stand with that.

Marwan Algharbi  ·  Sana'a, Yemen

Nadezhda Goncharova  ·  St. Petersburg, Russia

I am glad for such call to action.

In my city we do not have protests for Gaza against the genocide. I don't know why. In my university we do not speak of it. I don't know why. Many people is busy just with themselves and to make money.

My great grandmother told me about her life during the Blokada. It was very terrible time for her. She was a child and lost her family from the nazi genocide. Her father and his brother were soldiers and killed by the nazis. The others died of starvation. It was the brave fight of the Leningraders that made us now free today. But today we are not thankful.

Today we do not help the people in Gaza. We just think of money.

We need to make everyone remember the Blokada. We need to show the pictures of the Blokada and of Gaza together.

I will follow this site and talk to my friends. I will try to wake them. Thank you.

I am in solidarity with this act of resistance against the evil being perpetrated. Any government who has supported genocide and crimes against humanity, should be held accountable in the Hague. I will continue to speak out against this evil until Palestine is free and justice is done.

We must work on organizing a classification profile of countries' positions regarding the genocide. Indifference, government statements, breaking off diplomatic relations, acts of solidarity, sending humanitarian missions, military support, etc. Once the classification items are defined, a degree of importance would be assigned to each country's position in relation to the genocide. According to the classification of countries, a report would be published on the position occupied by each of them. This report will be dynamic and will change according to the level of involvement and manifestation of each country in the face of the genocidal government.

All countries that do not break off diplomatic relations with governments that practice genocide should be considered complicit and included on a list released by the resistance axis to the entire world.

Long Live the Resistance that has never been more supported or better understood globally people are realising the real axis of evil is the USA and Israelis the real enemies to humanity are those who whitewash Genocides Mass Murder and Land theft, those who nurture ideologies of Ethnosupremacy racism and deluded exceptionalism .. The World does not tolerate this kind of resonance, those who propagate these ideas are not powerful they are powerless.. this couldnt be more obvious with the unhinged and mentally ill behaviour they exhibit .. their days are numbered, the people of the world stand up steadfast against this.. RESISTANCE is for everyone.. everywhere..

I loudly denounce my own arrogant, destabilizing, co-genocidal so-called government. At the end of WW2 the US smuggled 1,500 high-level former Nazi operatives into the country and seeded the military industrial complex with them. The Nazi project lives on today in US-Israel-NATO and more, dressed up nicely as the 'Rules Based Order' and such. We must pull the curtain back and expose this duplicity. I will join the others who are now barking!
