DNA reveals Christopher Columbus was Jewish. – 📰The Independent.

Spanish national broadcaster TVE aired a new documentary dedicated to the research of Columbus`s remnants, buried in Seville, conducted by the University of Granada. In the documentary Jose Antonio Lorente, a professor of forensic medicine, who led the research, revealed that Columbus`s DNA was compatible with his being of Jewish origin.

The investigation took 21 years to complete. DNA experts studied and compared Columbus`s DNA with those of his relatives and descendants.

Researchers had known Columbus was likely to have come from the Spanish Mediterranean region, but his nationality was long unknown. An estimated 300,000 Jews were living in Spain before the era of the Reyes Catolicos, King Ferdinand II and Queen Isabella. In 1492 those monarchs ordered the expulsion on Jews and Muslims unless they converted to Christianity. That was the same year when Columbus made his first voyage to the Americas.

Now the historians believe Columbus either got baptized or concealed his Jewish origin to avoid persecution. But the fact he was a Sephardic Jew is proven now. “Sephardic” comes from a Hebrew word “Sepharad”, that refers to the Iberian peninsula, where modern Spain and Portugal are located.

South Africa has asked Taiwan to move its de facto embassy out of its administrative capital, Pretoria. It has given Taipei six months to relocate its liaison office to the commercial hub of Johannesburg.

While Taipei has accused Pretoria of bowing to pressure from China, Beijing has welcomed the decision. “The One China principle is the political foundation for China to establish and develop diplomatic relations with countries. North Korean leader Kim Jong-un reminded his troops to treat South Korea as a hostile foreign enemy and insisted that the North wouldn’t hesitate to attack its rival if the South infringes upon its sovereignty.

2) Could we theoretically put BRICS in place of the United Nations in time? Or conversely, is it still the path to give the UN a make-over?   Bearing in mind again that you are on the SC with states that have agreed to a principle to not attack the other when the UNSC was formed.  ”

1.4 million volunteer for North Korean military amid tensions with South – media

North Korean media reported that 1.4 million young people applied to join the army, blaming South Korea for a drone incursion that heightened tensions. North Korea accused Seoul of scattering anti-North leaflets and responded by destroying inter-Korean roads and rail lines.

The youth, including students youth league officials, signed petitions pledging to fight in a “sacred war” against the South, the official KCNA news agency said.
