From inside the rabbit hole:  After a week of just about all with a microphone in the US threatening that they will stop ‘mediating’ a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine, Vance said yesterday that they will give another 100 days to this noble endeavor of mediating – as if a co-belligerent can mediate.  I think a penny has dropped.  They’ve just signed a strange deal with people that cannot act because they are not legally valid to act, supposedly about minerals which is actually about owning Ukraine (instead of Greenland for now) for the money that they’ve already spent on this war against Russia.  But then, they agreed to supply aircraft service packs to Ukraine, for the war.  What if Russia continues to take most of 404?  Oops Deal Poof.  But, the US has just won both World Wars.  In that psychotic rabbit hole space, truth and its opposite can be truth at the same time.

This past Wednesday, the story was different:  The Trump administration is prepared to dedicate another 100 days to mediating a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine, US Vice President J.D. Vance told Fox News in an interview published on Wednesday. He said the US has made progress by getting both sides to present their ideas for resolving the conflict.

(Russia will most probably not allow them to sit on the sidelines and pretend relevance after they failed miserably to jump the peacetrain.  Though it was not about that, was it?  Let’s see what happens with normalizing consular relationships between the US and Russia.)

• Trump: The United States contributed “incomparably more” to victories in World War I and World War II than other countries. He declared new holidays – Victory Days – on November 11 and May 8 to commemorate victories in two wars.

• Ukraine Minerals Deal: Aid-for-assets playbook: Trump sees Ukraine minerals deal as model for future pacts. Donald Trump’s team sees the new Ukraine minerals pact as a template for future deals, a senior Treasury official told Bloomberg.  US aid could similarly be leveraged to secure assets and economic returns in other parts of the world, where Washington typically uses grants or loans to project soft power, according to the report.  DR Congo and Rwanda, where Trump’s Africa envoy Massad Boulos is pushing for a peace deal, may be next.

US conveys information to China on several occasions, hoping to talk about tariffs; China is making assessments: MOFCOM

The Chinese Spox:  China’s position is consistent: We will fight, if fight we must. Our doors are open, if the US wants to talk. The tariff and trade wars were unilaterally initiated by the US, and if the US side wants to talk, it should show its sincerity, and be ready to take action on issues such as correcting wrong practices and canceling the unilateral imposition of tariffs.

We have noted that the US has recently continued to release information on the adjustment of tariff measures. China would like to emphasize that, in any possible dialogue or talks, if the US side does not rectify its erroneous unilateral tariff measures, it will show that the US is totally insincere and will further undermine mutual trust between the two sides.

In the meantime, the CIA has released two new Mandarin-language videos targeting Chinese officials, aiming to recruit spies by tapping into possible discontent in the Chinese government, Reuters reports.

US warplane falls off aircraft carrier.  US Navy has announced that an F-18 fighter jet slid off an aircraft carrier and sank to the bottom of the Red Sea.  The carrier had to carry out sharp evasive maneuvers to escape a Houthi missile or drone attack, and oops .. one aircraft and its tractor right in the drink.

Russia announces another ceasefire:

By the decision of the President of the Russian Federation and Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, and for humanitarian reasons, the Russian side is declaring a ceasefire from midnight on May 8 to midnight on May 11 (00:00 on May 8 — 00:00 on May 11) during the days marking the 80th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

❗️ All military actions will be halted during this period.

Russia believes that the Ukrainian side should demonstrate similar restraint.

In the event of violations of the ceasefire by the Ukrainian side, the Russian Armed Forces will respond in an adequate and effective manner.

The Russian side once again reaffirms its readiness for peace talks without preconditions, aimed at addressing the root causes of the Ukraine crisis and engaging constructively with international partners.

Lavrov and Rubio Hold Phone Talks on Ukraine Crisis

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a telephone conversation to continue what officials described as a “productive exchange of views” on key aspects of the recently intensified Russian-American political dialogue, according to a statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry.

The discussion primarily focused on the ongoing crisis in Ukraine. Both diplomats emphasized the importance of creating the necessary conditions for negotiations aimed at agreeing on a roadmap toward a lasting peace in Ukraine, the Russian Foreign ministry added.

Israel bombed a suburb in Beirut today in their latest violation of the ceasefire.   Hezbollah is keeping to their agreements with their own administration who is incapable.
