Nima and Dmitry Orlov: The Collapse of the Arab World
Dmitry Orlov has some different ideas. He says Syria and other countries in the region are not countries. They are only old 6th century tribal societies. Fake countries, not political establishments. In his view Egypt is the only country there. All that happened in Syria, is that Assad left, having taken 6 years to learn Russian with his family. Kingpin gone, ‘not a country’ falls apart.
Quite amazing news is that the phosphates in Syria largely belongs to Tiffany Trump’s father in law.
Dmitry sure has different views.
What’s so great about being countries? Especially those with borders drawn by colonial occupiers. In such a situation, only the tribes have any cohesion or meaning. All the borders could disappear, and indeed the future from this destruction of borders may well be that the civilization of all the tribes… Read more »
This was weird. I kept telling myself to keep an open mind, but now, I must stuff everything back into that mind because it was too open I think. Principle: If Syria and the other countries in the region are not ‘countries’ but generally tribal societies, should we have any… Read more »
agreed, amarynth. i’ve enjoyed orlov’s cynical cut in the past but found this all but unbearable & nima appeared (projection on my part, no doubt) to also find it difficult to swallow. disingenuous. i’d never conjured orlov an actor in the ‘scottish play’ but the ‘out damn spot’ cringed nervously… Read more »

Dmitry touched on an enormous complex topic which I knew may cause a few eyebrows to be raised. If he had had time to write a reply on this topic then it would have been better understood. ok The theory below. Most nations of communities (tribes) are bound by political… Read more »
Thanks Ros and welcome. I do get what he says in the big scheme of things. Yet, that is the world that was set up for us, let’s say post 2nd WW just to define a time for now. Stress here, nations, groups, countries accepted that! They accepted that through… Read more »
And in agreement with everyone in this thread, let me note that the USA is made up of 50 States, and as I have long said, the state borders form the natural fault lines of that one country made from 50 sovereign countries. If the pressures on the USA became… Read more »
Precisely, Greived – the cracks are already appearing. Once upon a time, from 1919 until the last decade or so, there was only one state (North Dakota) that was hosting banking as a public utility. Now there are 35. The latest ones are also looking at sound money initiatives and… Read more »
Apologies to all… I misspoke…
It should read … “now there are 35 states in various stages of installing the architecture for sound money and banking reform.”
The edit function doesn’t seem to work more than once.
Hmmm… does the Trumpster’s appointments plot thicken once again!…
