It’s easy to imagine conflict. Even a few minor fellows might start a very significant affray, being not under proper discipline and command an’ all that.
It is also easy to imagine that a Governor will open his State Guard membership to the militia. In war time iirc in Title 10 “militia” is defined as most adults 18 – whatever, at one time 70, iirc, but probably 45 or something now…so? So it’s Texas…they might wind up with a vast well armed citizen militia that would, similarly to the criminal gangs, be impossible to control, or at least very difficult. Remarking that the gun has at least two political phases, vectors. One of these is force in being. Like our Yemeni brothers, they send telegraph like dog on guard. If, (it occurs to me) if we had a population of test critters and injected many (but not all) with a disease that reduced cognition and memory by a fraction, say 2% per year, what over-all social effects would we reasonably predict? When? Would the normal critters see the abnormal increasingly as a danger, for example? And the soon to be dummies? What of their emotions? I’ll see if B F Skinner can be paged 😉 Hello Abe? We did not take any very special precaution during the “live exercise”. Just normal hand washing no different from the precautions of 100 years ago, and don’t pick your nose…that sort of thing. Neither of us has been sick in years. Some “pandemic”!
The several fragments of what’s left of a family with which I have some slight connection…they all bought the gag…whack-events >4… and seem to be in decline. Seem. There are now slight indications that two of these people have begun to realize that their sharpness (both academics) is evaporating. One is 45, the other 80. Both engineer-mathematicians. And they’re becoming very emotional, expressing non-sequitur and so forth. We’ll perhaps know more later. A general rule I was taught long ago is that given a moderate rate of change most people cannot discern change <5%…say in the dimming a table lamp… My WAG is that they’re approaching the magic 5% … all very subjective and anecdotal, but then that’s how things work, mostly.
My emotional response is…well, developing. I rather imagine the distance is a good policy, just now. Keeping a weather eye out for clues…
