As I read your post I kept wanting to interrupt it with “Scott is scared!” and so I was very glad when you got to the last part and said it.  We begin to see, I think, Scott’s fundamental assumption. Wussie! I’m a wuss!  Marvelous! I’d venture to say his “weight problem” stems from the same source. If he was confident in himself he’d be trim and have a labrador instead of a guard dog…

About his nukes bringing “victory”… remarking that’s the Curtis LeMay principle, which was that by killing “enough” of the “enemy” (which means most all of them, exterminating an entire Country’s peoples) Victory is achieved.  In the Vietnam case the calculus was, iirc, that China would respond with their own forces, including nukes. And what then of the vast profits of the MIC, and Lyndon Johnson’s crooked patrons?  “Winning” was never the goal, no matter how it might be defined.

I understood that the car was from the motor pool, and parked. Not that it was carrying important person. I have seen expensive cars catch fire and burn. While those might have been machine failures, stuff does happen, I thought then that it was arson.  For the big bucks we would expect very high quality electrical design and manufacture… and at least optional fire suppression. Under the present circumstance I’d bet on arson/sabotage. As I wrote, take with salt. As to “warning”, yeah, whether it is or not, the default assumption would be that the nazis (what else are they?) are/will do their best to whack the Russian leaders, as they do to all their enemies.

As a boy working at harvest on a friend’s farm in evening we were allowed to go shoot frogs with our .22 rifles. It’s tricky…Mr frog swims with just the tip of his nose above water, and leaves a tiny wake in the shape of a “V”, this tells you where to aim. After you shoot one, the others dive deep and wait a long time. Me an’ the other boy tried to get two at a time. We got pretty good at it. Fried frog legs are tasty.
