Tariffs … Following the dialogue above with interest, I can assure y’all that the price of  the “building blocks” of basic material, steel for example,  has risen to near prohibitive levels. As to why…well, I guess there is more than one reason. I know that engineering contractors can’t bid a close estimate anymore, as their suppliers can’t guarantee price. In other words it has become necessary to overbid to include “elasticity”. The materials’ cost for even domestic material has also tracked this way…a new roof for a house has about doubled in the last few years…and by the way, the cost of a roof is added to the property tax, thus there’s another multiplier. For my projects nowadays I seek scrap from barns and garage sales….there I find great treasures! One reason for this is that many people are leaving the “Golden State” for what they imagine will be greener pastures. Their motivations include high taxes, and they’re not in agreement with the restrictive gun-laws. Anyway, the result is they’re selling all their excess stuff…
