Plutus…a sorta forgotten play…descriptive excerpt perhaps relevant in some strange way…

” The true Father Protector—the deity whom all men acknowledge—is here, he tells him, in the house. They mean to set him up permanently at Athens, in his proper place—the Public Treasury. And he shall be the minister of the new worship, if he likes to quit the service of Jupiter. The priest gladly consents, and an extempore procession is at once formed upon the stage, into which the old lady who has lost her lover is pressed, and persuaded to carry a slop-pail upon her head, to represent the maidens who, on such occasions, bore the lustral waters for the inauguration. Cario and the Chorus bring up the rear in an antic dance, and they proceed to establish at Athens, with all due formalities, the worship of Wealth alone.

Is any State ever “ready” for an existential war? Unanswerable, of course. Yet there are degrees of preparation, and preparations no mater the urgency, take time… thus I dispute Roberts’ following quote:

“…in these chains, no Western leader can undertake action to avoid war.

Russian President Putin has contributed to the coming catastrophic war by his ignoring of provocations in the hope that in the end he would secure a mutual security agreement with Washington that would end the tensions that threaten both countries.  Putin’s hopes were fruitless, because they ignored the Wolfowitz doctrine, the power of the US military-security complex, and Israel’s blackmail power over the government in America. ”

Setting aside the conflation of “hope” with “ignoring provocations”, the provocations were certainly not ignored…they elicited response, which has been to warn, to plan, prepare, build…and for the nazis forces to have weakened while the Resistance Forces have grown closer to “ready”.

I do agree with his conclusion, save that the war has already begun, it is not “inevitable”, it is now.
