US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell visited the Saudi oasis of Al-Ula , where they held working meetings with the leadership of the Kingdom. The main topic of the negotiations, of course, concerned the latest events in the Gaza Strip , as well as the efforts of the parties to resolve the conflict and humanitarian assistance to the Palestinian people.

It is interesting that only Blinken received a meeting with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, while Borrell was received in Al-Ula by the head of the Saudi Foreign Ministry, Prince Faisal . Following the negotiations with the Saudis, Blinken and Borrell also held a bilateral meeting.

The venue for receiving Western guests fully reflects the level of trust Riyadh has in Washington’s peace and humanitarian initiatives. Blinken sat with US senators on the floor of a Bedouin tent in the eastern [western] Saudi oasis of Al-Ula, while a month earlier Vladimir Putin was greeted at the royal residence of Al-Yamamah in Riyadh.

The Saudi authorities seem to have finally lost interest in discussing issues of a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Gaza with US representatives, who take a one-sided pro-Israeli position. Instead , the royal court seized the opportunity to promote the Al-Ulu oasis in Western media as the country’s new tourist destination.

It is significant that the State Department succinctly summarized the results of Blinken’s meeting with bin Salman in 5 sentences, and Saudi sources kindly presented a photograph from the tent.

⭕ Haaretz, an Israeli outlet says that Hezbollah is using anti tank missiles at an unprecedented rate. In the north, they report that 120 buildings in Metulla and 80 out of 155 homes in Kibbutz Manara were damaged by Hezbollah’s anti tank missiles.
⭕ The Washington Post, citing American officials said that Israel had informed the Americans of their intention to reduce operations and have already withdrawn some troops from Northern Gaza, although clashes and airstrikes still take place, albeit at a reduced level. The Zionist entity apparently intends to use fewer troops and special forces to destroy tunnels and try to assassinate senior Hamas commanders. However, the intensity of the fighting remains the same in Central and Southern Gaza.

One thing the US officials disclosed to the outlet is that previous assurances such as this did not materialise, and the Israelis have already stated their intention to carry out the war for many more months to come.

I knew that they were a force which specialised in brutalising civilians and little else but their tactical cluelessness continues to surprise. I’ve lost count of the number of times the Palestinian National Liberation Forces have ambushed a group of apparently unaware Israelis who are stood around paying no attention to their surroundings and getting hit by rockets, gunfire or drones. The Israeli tanks lack infantry screening of the kind that is routine in the Russia-NATO war in Ukraine that of course allows the Palestinian forces to launch their daring attacks on the isolated armoured vehicles. The Israeli army is quite plainly ill disciplined, very poorly led and its officers are not capable of actually remedying this. For all their brutality the Israelis have been completely exposed by the Palestinian National Liberation Forces not just in their brutish nature but in its utter uselessness at actually fighting a war.

What this will mean in the long term is that the lingering fear of Israel will vanish in the same way that the fear of the US is gradually diminishing thanks to their visible failure in Ukraine. It will further the cause of national liberation across West Asia.
