In light of the talk about a ship loaded with aid departing from the port of Larnaca in Cyprus heading to Gaza; we confirm that, up to this moment, the efforts to relieve our people are weak and remain below the minimum required in the face of the humanitarian disaster that is befalling our people, especially in northern Gaza where more than 700,000 citizens are suffering a clear starvation war.As announced, the load of the ship does not exceed the load of one or two trucks and will take days. It is still unknown where it will dock and how it will reach the shores of Gaza, in addition to it being subject to inspection by the occupation army. ⭕ Are Saudi Arabia and Iran ready to restore mutual trust a year after resuming diplomatic relations?🇸🇦🇮🇷 A year ago, on March 10, 2023, Saudi Arabia and Iran agreed to resume diplomatic relations after a seven-year break , announcing the beginning of a new stage of bilateral cooperation. Over the past year , the two sides have reopened their embassies and exchanged ambassadors, and held numerous high-level meetings , culminating in the Iranian president’s first visit to Riyadh in November in 11 years.
The tone of Saudi-Iranian relations has changed from openly hostile to moderately cautious . Riyadh and Tehran have even made a number of attempts to revive the 1998 General Cooperation Agreement and the 2001 Security Cooperation Treaty , but so far no progress has been made.
Despite all the diplomatic achievements, regional leaders have not signed any significant agreement over the past year, other than in the realm of diplomacy itself . A breakthrough could be the agreement to resume the admission of Iranians to Saudi Mecca for pilgrimage, which was announced in January. But this did not happen either; in February, Tehran announced the cancellation of the plan to send the first 30 thousand due to “technical differences” regarding flight permits.
Yemen and Libya remain two major flashpoints that threaten to destroy the still fragile relationship between Riyadh and Tehran. Both sides share the fear of an escalating fire that could burn them too. As long as their interests in these areas are in direct conflict, leaders will not be able to come to a clear understanding of how the current “normalization” can lead to any significant détente.
In addition, another challenge for the two capitals was the re-ignition of the traditional dispute over the Durra oil and gas field in the northern part of the Persian Gulf . The conflict over the largest gas reserves in the region clearly does not add sufficient optimism to the strengthening of Saudi-Iranian cooperation, and therefore one should not count on friendship in a war .
