Range and Altitude: Hypersonic missiles usually travel at lower altitudes in the atmosphere compared to traditional ballistic missiles, which can add to their evasion capabilities. They often fly along unpredictable trajectories designed to stay below the tracking threshold of some missile defence radars. The Arrow system, optimised for intercepting missiles during mid-course or terminal phases, might not be capable of effectively engaging a hypersonic missile, especially if its altitude and speed exceed the system’s design specifications.
Intelligence and Preparation: The success of missile defence systems depends on early detection and accurate tracking. Hypersonic missiles, however, reduce the window for detection due to their high speeds and potentially stealthy profiles.
