The Russians are also now the most blooded and effective maneuver force on Earth that can hold its own in attrition warfare when stalled on offensive arms.

All UK and EU bridges are rated at 44,000 kg (44 tons) maximum total weight. And all those bridges are eminently targetable by a preemptive mass strike by Russian missiles in the middle of the night simultaneously. Couple that with port strikes and things become difficult.

Take a close look at ports on Norway, Holland, Belgium, Germany and France and the west to east arterials.

Then look at what happens when you destroy the ability to transit Gibraltar.

It’s hard to comprehend the scale and difficulty of this mission. Getting enough oxygen and water into the tunnel, setting up the logistics (soldiers need ammo! They need food!), dealing with the physical challenges — walking 15km through a narrow tunnel with a low ceiling (my back hurts just thinking about it) —, the psychological pressure, the darkness… and yet…

They sent several hundred soldiers through that tunnel. Everyone always had enough food and water. After exiting the tunnel, the soldiers immediately went on a forced march and into battle — they captured several key strongpoints, set up a perimeter defence & held the line until their comrades broke through to them.

This was a genuinely superhuman feat. Not just the march, not just the sheer amount of soldiers that crossed that pipe, but, after going through this nightmare willpower challenge, IMMEDIATELY going into combat, and WINNING, kicking the enemy out of his trenches and strongpoints, disrupting his logistics, causing chaos and panic in his rear, and then absorbing the pushback while fully encircled on all sides — it’s UNBELIEVABLE. And yet we know it happened! We have videos! We’ve seen the map change dramatically over a few days!

Again, I absolutely do not believe that men nowadays are somehow less brave or heroic than previous generations. This operation was one for the history books, to be talked about in a hundred years. I’m tempted to call these men demigods or some other epithet. But they’re not. They’re just Russian soldiers…

As for the enemy, they do what they always do. The pipeline operation caused mixed reactions in the Ukrainian camp: it simultaneously never happened, and also all the troops that were inside the pipeline were killed immediately upon exiting, and also they all suffocated on the way there. And the frontline collapsed, because… Well, they haven’t really talked about that yet. But who cares.

They’ve taken fat Ls in similar ways twice before — at the ‘Tsarskaya Okhota’ strongpoint, which contributed to the fall of Avdeevka, and near New York. But those ops were small-time compared to going dwarf mode like the AIDA lads and the 30th Motor Rifles did… It’s unprecedented, really.

And if every Ukrainian soldier now has nightmares about Russian soldiers coming out of every pipe he sees, well, that’s even better.

Not only did they execute a rapid and almost flawless evacuation and suffered negligible civilian losses, but they cleared their own mine fields to open specific corridors, and pre-placed some of their most capable units in the rear, along with extensive long-range fires.

The Russians have not had to transfer forces from any other part of the LOC in order to defeat the incursion, and at no point has there been any credible risk of the incursion achieving ANY operational or strategic success.

The results speak for themselves: it has been an absolute massacre of the AFU forces fed into the kill zone.

Furthermore, it is perfectly consonant with longstanding Russian military doctrine and practice. It is consistent with:

Kherson – August 2022

It has now become indisputable that the Russians managed the situation expertly and took full advantage of the circumstances. That is, they executed an expeditiously successful evacuation of the region, in effect minimizing civilian casualties, and efficiently destroyed the best of the AFU personnel and equipment on a battlefield of their choosing, effectively accelerating the attrition of the AFU.

That said, considering that Russians have been conducting a massive military operation akin to war—in addition to my earlier point, it does not matter if the Russian political and military leadership permitted or even engineered the manifestation of the incursion, as such a double-envelope operation likely saved the lives of at least tens of thousands of Russian soldiers, in effect massively outweighing the sacrifice.

Reasonable and justifiable sacrifices are often required, especially during war.

The Kursk incursion therefore, far from being a setback for Russia, provided for it a new front in which to carry out its main strategy
