Let’s step back in time just a moment
Let’s step back in time just a moment, seeing that besides the active Gaza and Palestinian activities, we have a bit of a lull.
Go back to BRICS where I and most of my buddies were in ecstasy around the real birth and growth of this new direction. We all remember anyone who could lick a cereal spoon standing in line to be allowed in. We’re looking at reducing dollar reliance, a stated objective of doing good trade, an alliance of brothers and sisters and not fighters and hegemons, and a combined vision to the world.
We all remember that China consistently held to a peaceful way forward with decidedly the best speech of Xi Jinping read out by Commerce Minister Wang Wentao. https://sovereignista.com/2023/08/24/at-brics-the-most-inspiring-speech-xi-jinping/ We remember that Lula from Brazil wanted to push ahead a little with insisting on Argentina being elected and we are still watching the outcomes and fallouts there, with a run-off election on the cards.
I could comment for pages: https://sovereignista.com/2023/08/28/fm-sergey-lavrovs-remarks-and-answers-to-questions-at-the-news-conference-following-the-brics-summit-with-my-comments/
The BRICS set a very clear tone of we are able to do things better in a cooperative manner with strong cultural resonance that rivalled all the major professional plans, bbb and all the climate actions which are now being tossed out by Afica and other formal initiatives
In January I talked about the Celac summit that had the same essential humanity, i.e. one of peace and that was on the the declarations from CELAC – they will be a zone of peace.
So BRICS came and went and left me with a bubbly hangover, but a good one. I had a new perspective of what can be done with this world of ours, while previously it was only China that modeled this for us. Now this concept has an active market for its perspective.
As a bad soundtrack, we then went into the G20 under India’s chairmanship and it would be fair to say a little tongue in cheek that we’ve not really recovered yet.
This does not mention the backdrop of the SMO, which is not a war, because it does not kill civilians. How many people missed that little piece? The SMO continues but its puppets have been lost next the road somewhere and Netanyahoo decided he would be a better warmaker and a clown than Zelensky. Zelensky could not have had 5 paragraphs of footage over the past week or so. That war is over, it is just waiting for Russia to mop up and declare it so. Yet the shooting continues although the number of kia looks fewer to me .. around 300 per day.
A quip by Maria Zakharova:
💬 “I read the cry of NATO members that people might forget about Zelensky. Please don’t worry – we won’t let you forget. We will talk about the crimes of the Kiev regime every day”
Then one morning we were coldly dumped into the depths of a despair and slough of despond of another war in the Middle East, and Gaza being pummelled given that Hamas did some pummeling first. After seeing Gaza, Ukrainians came to the conclusion that they are in a SMO after all, and not a war.
There are many voices saying that this war will not last. The US has played its last set piece. Netanyahu cannot continue as he is scared of Hammas or …. or …. or Iran. I don’t know but what becomes clear is that the US administration has many differences and there is no unity there – The situation is too hot to find a kernel
Today’s dogwhistle and risable word from the Israli troll factories – Israel is fighting World War III against ‘radical Islam’ – ground offensive is still trending as the scare quote of the day. But seemingly Israel is a little scared of Hezbollah as well. https://sputnikglobe.com/20231024/scott-ritter-israel-failing-in-global-pr-campaign-to-demonize-hamas-1114455922.html
The international “rules-based” order that the US presumes to lead, which includes Washington’s role in deciding which nations in any given conflict are “right” and those which are “wrong,” has begun unraveling. It is a process that many around the globe welcome, and for good reason.
The US suffers from chronic strategic overreach
We do not know, and just perhaps we have to live longer with the horrifying visions of children, babies, doctors, aid workers, ambulance drivers being killed in front of our eyes. Consider the speech posted of Norman Finkelstein,…. this is the way Israel makes war. They massacre the innocent.
My name is Faina. All my short life I have lived in war. I know what a blockade is. I know what it’s like to be under fire. I know how it is when people are dying not far away, but you hold on with all your might because your whole family needs water. I know what it is to realise that old people and children have been and are being killed by weapons supplied by the West, and you can do nothing. Every day, like you, we bury our fathers and mothers and children. They destroy, like you, hospitals, temples just because we want to be free and happy. I know what war is. I know what it is to lose friends, but I ask you to hold on and not to despair. We will cope with everything, no matter how hard it is.
The Russian Federation has prepared an alternative to the American draft of a UN Security Council resolution on resolving the situation in the Middle East, Nebenzya said. The new project, in particular:
➡️calls for an immediate, stable ceasefire;
➡️condemns the Hamas attack on October 7, as well as indiscriminate attacks on civilians in Gaza;
➡️calls for the immediate lifting of the order for Gaza residents to move to the south of the strip;
➡️calls for organizing humanitarian pauses and humanitarian corridors;
➡️calls for the immediate and unconditional release of civilian hostages.
The Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations, Zhang Jun, stated:
➡️China has called on Israel to lift the blockade on the Gaza Strip and open channels for humanitarian assistance.
➡️The root cause of the conflict in the Middle East is the disregard for the rights of Palestinians to establish an independent state.
➡️The UN Security Council should use clear and unambiguous language to demand a ceasefire in the Middle East.
Developments in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict zone
From Foreign Ministry’s Deputy Spokesperson Alexey Zaytsev’s briefing (https://mid.ru/ru/press_service/spokesman/briefings/1910603/?lang=en) (October 20, 2023)
💬 We have followed the developments in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict zone with great concern. According to the latest data, about 5,000 Palestinians and Israelis have been killed since October 7, when this large-scale armed confrontation began, with nearly 18,000 people reported as wounded. Among the victims are 19 Russian citizens.
The humanitarian disaster in Gaza is growing. On October 17, a missile launched at the Arab Al-Ahli hospital killed hundreds of civilians.
We want to emphasise once again that the current spiral in the Palestinian-Israeli confrontation is the direct consequence of the West disregarding the existing UN and Security Council resolutions and actually blocking the performance of the Middle East Quartet of international mediators, which includes Russia, the US, the EU and the UN.
The tragic events in the region have resulted from Washington’s years-long destructive policy of undermining the solution to the fundamental issues involved in this long-standing conflict and substituting economic stop-gap measures for conscientious participation in the Middle East settlement. As events have shown, these measures are not what is needed to bring peace and stability to the region.
❗️We reiterate our consistent position of principle: this years-long conflict cannot be settled by force. Its solution can only be brought about by political and diplomatic methods, involving the launch of a full-scale negotiation process on the well-known international legal basis, which provides for the creation of an independent Palestinian state within the 1967 borders with its capital in East Jerusalem, a state living in peace and security with Israel.
What we can hope for, is the swift application of a ceasefire and of all means of food and shelter and medical help. That is all. Perhaps the world community stand together for the long touted two state solution which will be a wonderful thing if the old borders get applied to the current settlers.
