On a lighter note: My journey through music

My journey through music

I like to share my experiences with others, including my musical experience with you. Feel free to comment with your experiences and share what can connect nicely with what I write and share in terms of music.

Part 4: East Asia

On YouTube you get new videos recommended on a regular basis and there are gems among them. The following video caught my attention because I had seen the movie and I was curious about this young lady who was going to perform a rather difficult song. I still consider myself lucky that this very video prompted me to delve further into music from East Asia.

Jane Zhang

The Diva Dance is a piece of music not actually composed for the human voice. Especially the second part is nearly impossible and only very special singers with an extremely wide range can handle it. Jane Zhang sings it fantastically here and it was the reason I started looking up more of her.

I get really happy here and could go from video to video for hours. Listening to music and getting totally absorbed in it gives you energy. You can release tension and sadness. For that you don’t necessarily have to know the language. If the vocals are fine, the melody wonderful and the musicians great, then all you have to do is be in the now.

Every time I hear this, I don’t understand why I get tears. It is so beautiful and it evokes emotions. Did I live in China in a previous life? What am I missing so much? Her voice is wonderful and she is incredibly beautiful. I fall for her eyes. Well, I won’t be the only one. It is also beautiful to see others, how others enjoy it.

Song SoHee

Then I found this singer from South Korea. Song Sohee was traditionally trained from a young age and combines that with contemporary music. She has a fine and energetic appearance which also makes it fun to watch her and enjoy her singing. She has power, wow.

South Korea is really a country full of music. They pay a lot of attention to culture, tradition and dress, you can see that in the music videos with very good musicians and a multitude of different instruments. Song Sohee once again shows how much she has mastered her voice and how music is pure enjoyment.

It’s hard to choose from everything I’ve collected from Song Sohee, you may really look for more from her and others on your own. Here’s another duet with Ko Young Yeol. Goosebumps. I really feel this in my whole body. Again, I don’t understand any of it but love it.

An encore

When I describe my journey through music, I spend hours with little text. I listen and have a hard time choosing because there is so much to share. Suddenly I’m an hour down the road and haven’t made any progress except I enjoyed it. I am also so curious to know what you guys think. And what you guys want to share.

Have fun watching and especially listening. Try to feel the music in your body. Get into the music. Get carried away on the waves that connect human beings to the divine world around us. Surrender and be one.

Thank you Nico Cost!

Thank you, Siljan, for sharing and connecting. Beautiful music and I agree with HT that Sami Yusuf L’Amour Vivant brings heaven on earth. He shows us that all people can be a great orchestra.

Nico, if you’re into powerful female voices from East Asia, then I’d like to suggest Gong Shuang to you (if you haven’t come across her before): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2n9fd4gwqvg

Thank you for sharing these. This is where YT adds a service to all of humanity. I’ve also fallen in love with music far removed from my own cultural background. An Islamic song was suggested and I fell into a rabbit hole… A blessing from Above, and I draw great… Read more »

Nice that there are lyrics so you can understand what is being sung. I have a beta brain but would so very much like to have a flair for language. I think it would be great to be able to speak Arabic, Mandarin, Hindi, Russian, French, Spanish and Portuguese.  The… Read more »
