My speculation is China was doing what China does – protecting themselves and their interests around the world, including supporting other Global South nations. It was also a chance to test how resilient the energy changes they’ve made would be to a drop in oil imports.

Once the MOU was “torn up”, China ramped up shipments again, because they know it’s just a matter of time before things get serious, and they wanted to refill their coffers from the “test”.

Basically, I think the US was hoping to cause more damage than they did, and failed thanks to China.

I doubt that China “made a deal with the US” as well. Pilkington has good points here or there, but he also has bad points here or there. Thank you for the transcript, since his thoughts are speculative I will just ignore. For starters, the US didn’t tear up the MOU because Trump got up on the wrong side of the bed. Trump is a controlled puppet. The US was never going to honor the MOU, just like Israel is never going to honor a “ceasefire”.

FWIW I think Iran knows that it has to work now to maintain some of the advantages it holds. The US is absolutely looking to refine tactics and develop new weaponry to counter what Iran threw at it before. I think Iran has still held things in check, knowing this would happen. Much like Russia has done much to counter the drones that Ukraine is using en masse, I think the US has enough tricks up it’s sleeve to counter Iran’s decisive drone advantage. Maybe not now, but soon.

I don’t even think this war with Iran is in endgame yet. Still a long ways to go. 2030 is still the target for the west.

China and the United States likely struck a deal for China to reduce its oil imports to stave off an oil shock while the US signed the Memorandum of Understanding

hmm…

If this is true it brings up many, many more questions.
