🗓 On November 7, 1941, a historic military parade took place on the Red Square in Moscow to mark the 24th anniversary of the October Revolution.

The parade was organised and held under challenging conditions amidst the advance of the German Nazi invaders, who were just a few dozen kilometers away from Moscow. The preparations were carried out in the strictest secrecy, with public announcement made only in the evening of November 6.

⚜️ The parade lasted only 25 minutes, but proved to the world that the Red Army’s morale remained unbroken. In total, 28,487 people took part in the march, along with 140 artillery guns, 160 tanks, and 232 vehicles. From the Red Square, the soldiers headed to the front to defend the city.

The parade was broadcast on the radio worldwide, with many foreign newspapers writing about this important event. For the Nazis, it came as a complete surprise which demoralised the enemy. Hitler had planned to capture the USSR’s capital by November 7 and hold his own celebration on the Red Square. Upon learning about the parade he ordered for it to be bombed. However, as a result of the unprecedented security measures and bravery of Russian pilots and anti-aircraft gunners, several dozen German planes were shot down on the city’s outskirts. On that day, not a single bomb fell on Moscow.

⚡️Today marks the 1st month since the start of Operations against Israel by armed Palestinian factions, so here are some numbers.

This is by far the worst outbreak of violence in terms of casualty numbers, in one month, over 10,000 Palestinians have been killed in the Gaza Strip, compared to around 1,500 Israelis (according to official data)

This is comparatively much, much worse compared to the Second Intifada which occurred between the years of 2000 and 2005, and the First Intifada, which occurred between 1987 and 1993, combined, these two events only have over 6,600 dead over a time span of 11 years.

Even if you add in other events, including the war of 2014 and the 2021 Clashes, you would only end up with an additional 2,700 dead, combined, that is over 9,300 dead, still not surpassing over 1 month of brutal fighting.

The 2023 war in Gaza is objectively one of the worst conflicts the Palestinians have gone through, and are going through at the moment, and that is only the first month of the war, and Israel does not seem interested in a ceasefire.

The figures are harrowing, and remember that behind every number, there was a grown man who wished to provide for his family, or fight for his land, or a child, or a woman.

This is being done to avoid further bombings targeting medical convoys. Yesterday, ICRC staff monitored a convoy of four vehicles transporting seriously wounded people from Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City to the Rafah border crossing.

After an Israeli strike on a convoy of ambulances, the checkpoint remained temporarily closed. By its actions, Israel made it clear that it does not intend to allow the wounded to be removed from the sector. This prompted Egypt to close the crossing and deny entry to foreign nationals and dual citizens.

Two days ago, Israeli forces attacked a convoy of wounded in ambulances that was about to depart from Al-Shifa Hospital in the western Gaza Strip to the Rafah crossing for onward transport to Egypt. The missile strike killed 15 people and injured more than 60 others.

It is worth adding that after delivering the wounded to the Egyptian field hospital, ambulances were not allowed to return to the Gaza Strip.
