⭕ Mali’s FM Denies Western Media Claims of ‘Occupation of Capital’ by Jihadists“We are well in Bamako, we are not surrounded and we are completely free,” Abdoulaye Diop stated at a press conference held during the BAMEX25 defense exhibition.
He emphasized that “television studios do not control Mali,” condemning the panic campaigns in certain media outlets that, he said, aim to spread fear and confusion.
Diop also addressed the recent fuel blockade carried out by JNIM, Al-Qaeda’s Sahelian branch*, which led to long lines at gas stations in the capital and temporary school closures. According to him, these actions are intended to provoke unrest and destabilize the government.
“But the people understood the plan and continue to live their normal lives,” he said.
The FM added that the government was successfully mitigating the effects of the blockade and insisted that JNIM was “no match” for the security forces, noting that Mali now has sufficient military capability to deter any attempts at destabilization.
“We are in a proxy war. Some powers, unable to confront us directly, are using asymmetric forces to try to fight us, but Mali will overcome this difficulty, we will hold on and move forward,” he concluded.
