Gold is used throughout industry, it’s a basic industrial material. Noncorroding in air it is , for example, plated on electrical contacts, especially low voltage stuff in computers, etc. Salvaging old from junk electronics is shown, also for example, on you tube. I don’t remember why the satellites use it – nice thing about Au is that it can be formed into layers one atom thick…Light will pass through it. Cool stuff. It is interesting that some bacteria latent in gravel beds can filter atoms of gold from the stream and assemble these into a “membrain” that protects the bacteria…which process gradually forms “nuggets”… I have often thought that the DNA wizards might want to see about making a bacteria to extract gold from seawater and from the warm water discharge of power plants…. But since I do not worship gold…it remains just an obvious thought.
