Western-style idpol only seeped into the Latin American left relatively recently.
All the ‘pink tide’ govts were heavily criticised at the time by libs for being too ‘macho’ and not focusing enough on idpol issues. Priority then was development & infrastructure for the people.
The ‘liberal movement’ in the region, as Ollie says, crept in very recently. This is why I lose my cool when commentators blame the Brazilians or the LULA (despite mistakes) administration for not taking this seriously enough, and this is why LULA came in 2nd with the initial round of voting. If a country does not have hard experience in this field they will struggle as we’ve seen in Bolivia for one. Many countries are going to suffer under lawfare and information technology juiced with AI attacks. The scope of the attack vector is so huge, that one can only fight the reality of it, once it exposes itself.

Do not take for granted that any of the favorites are still in the same place – Many of them moved to the phase of ideological politics. It sounds so good. We can talk about climate change, women’s rights, UFO’s, confused sexual LARPS and all kinds of exiting leftist things., and immediately forget class warfare, honest economics, the Palestinians or what is really important. This is what is happening with Mamdami in New York by all factions wanting to ‘keep him accountable’. He is being ideologically swept to one side and forced to be binary (and this does not mean I carry water for him). This is then the paper edge on which we balance and we have to decide which step is the most important for the Global Resistance. We all need a personal Sinwar’s Stick. Francesca Albanese said it re the Israeli genocide aka holocaust. :
A message to the anti-apartheid front: Palestinians continue to die. This is not the time for ideological purism or internal struggles. Let us not allow differences to divide us, let us practice solidarity and focus on the immediate priority: stopping the weapons headed to Israel.
