Michael Hudson : My solution to resolve the U.S.-Iran War standoff

I woke up this morning after having fallen asleep watching the U.S. military buildup for new fighting against Iran. Suddenly everything became clear to me for how to settle the U.S. Oil War with Iran – and indeed with its neighboring Arab OPEC countries as well –without the mutual destruction that seems to have been scheduled and is being put in place for this weekend.

There can’t be any negotiations, because Trump kills the negotiators and Iran is running out of finding willing martyrs. So here is what I think should be relayed by intermediaries:

Regarding to Iran at least the $12 and $100 billion of Iranian savings that are frozen in neighboring UAE banks (promised in Paragraph 11 as a show of good faith to set the agreement in motion), the United States itself will pay the full $$100+ to billion Iran. This cuts the Gordian knot of these Sunni sheikdoms trying the ploy of keeping this money as reparations to themselves as compensating for Iran’s retaliation against them for their having joined the U.S. attacks on Iran.

The United States is simply in a much better position to collect from the Emirates and other banks in which this money is held – held as a result of the original U.S. sanctions.

Trump then can charge them a separate levy of whatever he wants from “protecting” them from further Iranian bombing by stopping to bomb Iran. He will indeed have saved them from the destruction that Iran would have wrought in retaliating against the planned U.S. attack. As their self-proclaimed Guardian Angel, he has the U.S. equivalent of divine right to make this demand on them.

Re Iran’s administration of trade through the Strait of Hormuz promised in Paragraph 5, it will indeed be permitted to be in control, including the territorial waters of Oman in view that the state of war that exists gives it a higher power than the UN Conference on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). Iran then can impose tolls to recover the $300 billion that Trump had signed in the MoA (Paragraph 6) reflecting the damage that the United States has estimated Iran needs to rebuild as a result of the damage caused by the nearly half a century of U.S. economic sanctions.

Regarding the agreement’s Paragraph 1 calling for Israel to join the ceasefire, if it doesn’t withdraw and pay reparations to Southern Lebanon Shia authority (NOT to the Lebanese state that attacked the region south of the Litani river), Iran will enforce the peace with the newly created Shia statelet (which in time will expand to absorb what should have been a Palestinian state – parts of Jordan, the Golan Heights, etc.)

The ending of any Great War has far-reaching political restructuring as part of its resolution. World War I saw the end of Europe’s Habsburg and other monarchies. The equivalent today would be for Iran to invade Kuwait, Jordan and the UAE, and replace their ruling clans with a democracy under its sponsorship. This would start the process of undoing what Britain and France did after the Ottoman Empire was dissolved after World War I. It will be the final solution to the epoch of European colonialism and its destructive carve-up of the region.

This is my proposed plan for what is going to happen in any event, even if the belligerent parties do not accept my proposed terms right away.

I haven’t even finished my morning coffee yet, so this is the simplest solution that I can come up with. I’ll be posting a long analysis of the geopolitics at work in a week or two.
