Chronicles - Sovereign Global Majority

Since Mr Lavrov’s speech at general meeting of the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) …

Russian Diplomats are owning the air waves. They are issuing many statements and are doing many interviews with the State Broadcasters of the country that they work in. This one was interesting from Bangladesh and specifically for the last paragraph.

Embassy of Russia in Bangladesh (https://t.me/rusembbd/11168):

๐ŸŽ™ Russian Ambassador to Bangladesh Alexander Khozinโ€™s interview (https://www.deshkalnews.com/interview/24843)with Deshkal News (https://www.deshkalnews.com/) (April 1, 2026)

Key points:

โ€ข Russia is pursuing equal partnership with the countries of the Global South, where coercive measures such as tariffs are inadmissible. We do not live in the times of colonialism, so no nation can dictate its conditions to others.

โ€ข Unilateral sanctions imposed by the West are counterproductive and go against the international law.

โ€ข Russia organises international events such as forums, arts and science competitions, exhibitions, and more. Participants are usually offered a rich cultural programme and the opportunity to visit some of the most iconic landmarks in Russian cities.

โ€ข Russia does not seek to build narrow alliances designed to isolate one country or another. On the contrary, it promotes a broader initiative โ€“ the Greater Eurasian Partnership (https://russiancouncil.ru/en/analytics-and-comments/analytics/eight-principles-of-the-greater-eurasian-partnership/) โ€“ which is not directed against any nation.

โ€ข Responsibility for the consequences of the man-made crisis in the Middle East โ€“ including its unpredictable chain reaction and the spiralling escalation of violence โ€“ rests entirely with the US and Israel (https://t.me/MFARussia/28511).

The very last paragraph says it all. But, it also has an implication for BRICS (when it wakes from its coma. We are seeing signs that the coma is lifting into deep slumber. But there is life in that old dog yet and I hope nobody turns off the life preserving machines in the meantime!).

BRICS prides itself on not interfering in the internal affairs of others. This is not working now that we saw a genocide (still ongoing) and the war on Iran. This part of the BRICS values must be restated. Even the UN Security Council has law where interference is necessary, even up to military action, although it is laid lame now. I consider the War on Iran a direct consequence (not the only one) of the Security Council not doing its job during time of genocide. This bought additional impunity so that hegemonic forces could continue with their evil. This specific BRICS value, and the Human Rights legal framework is in opposition in certain aspects.

There is much work to do and BRICS must state where they stand, which at the moment, is just nowhere.

I am really glad to see that both Russia and China consistently fingers the perpetrators by name!

This is a major change in current norms of diplomacy.
