Angelo Giuliano: Real news from Caracas
I met yesterday with an Italian citizen, whom I will call “Carlo,” with a military background, on a tourist visa in Caracas. He is extremely pro-US and is working, probably illegally, with an “NGO” funded by the EU. It was also previously funded by USAID until Trump cut some of the funding, according to him. His NGO that supposedly does some humanitarian work, and he is focused on security issues, reporting to embassies and probably to Italian security agencies.
I was in the upper-class area of Chacao in Caracas, where some foreigners and hard-core anti-Maduro people live. I approached him after hearing him speak Italian. He gladly sat with me, hoping to give me the whole fake news mantra: Maduro is a drug lord, etc.
I began to softly expose the misinformation without being confrontational, so I could get as much information out of him as possible.
He was top-notch when it came to talking about security and strategy to decapitate Maduro’s government in a night move on the presidential palace using very powerful bombs, a combination of strategic strikes, and power cuts. It was a mix of interesting scenarios but also a lot of wishful thinking.
It was fascinating to gradually hear his shift from the mainstream media’s usual talking points to admitting that the US is the aggressor. These people tell so many lies that they ultimately begin to believe them.
It is worrying that such individuals report to their hierarchy with information deeply tainted by their bias and ideology, obscuring the facts.
I pointed out that Venezuela was not mentioned even once in the 2024 DEA drug threats report and that, obviously, all this is a pretext to justify striking Venezuela.
His response was always, “Yes, but…” adding: “Yes, but Venezuela has good relationships with Iran and Hezbollah.” “Yes, but it is communist.” “Yes, but there are human rights violations.”
It is quite scary how these so-called security specialists produce reports that will somehow influence their leadership.
But money controls everything. When the military-industrial complex, USAID, CIA/NED are behind these security analysts who report to government leadership, Western governments become even more prone to war and to aligning with US interests.
This was just a random encounter, but there is probably much more than just “Carlo.” Caracas is infested with Western agents ready to topple the government with the help of US strikes, a local fifth column, and hopes that some factions of the Venezuelan army will betray Maduro’s government.
After this encounter, I felt a mix of excitement at gaining some occasional deep insight amid the nonsense, but then I realized that we are probably close to something very big.
He advised me to stock up on food, water, and have cash on hand, and told me to “hibernate” when this happens, as there will likely be a 48–72 hour curfew and martial law with strict movement limitations if and when US attack would happen.
It woke me up to the reality: it can happen anytime. Scary.
Hoping for the best for Venezuela, but also preparing for the worst.
