January 19

I spent much of the day taking in the footage from Gaza. What I saw today was a triumphant fighting force and an overjoyed community that reveres these fighters.  It is not an ‘army’ military, but those men are fighters.  Uniforms clean and spiffy, shiny weapons carried as extensions of their physical beings, resolute faces with eyes scanning their environment and surrounded by their excited and hollering community intent on rejoicing and rebuilding.

Hamas entered the scene victorious and as conquerors, carrying themselves with pride. Gaza and Hamas won this war. These fighters are not emaciated fumbling tunnel rats.

In stark contrast, the zionists are both astounded and deeply depressed by these scenes of joy, asking the question:  Where were we during the last 15 months ?  We thought these people were defeated.  Our military told us they have been decimated .. and look at that!  Hamas floated a battalion today, only for security for the hostage exchanges.  We heard that Hamas doubled in size, and today, we saw it.  The first hostage exchange was surrounded by a phalanx of 6 or more fighters deep, and the exchange happened so quickly with smooth handovers from Hamas fighters to the Red Cross and IDF soldiers and Hamas protecting those hostages with their bodies. They know their moves and they know what is necessary. Now the Israelis are doing their normal hasbara and delaying the prisoner exchange. But all of Israel saw those Hamas fighters today right on their televisions while watching the hostage exchange, and saw their competent and quick moves, and it scared them in their deepest hearts.

About 552 aid trucks entered the Gaza Strip during the day, with 242 trucks heading to the northern Gaza Strip.  Bulldozers are out cleaning the rubble.  The police force is active.  The first responders are active.

Daily Chronicles will be quiet today.  I am enjoying the sights and sounds now that the ceasefire is taking hold (for now), especially the children gathered around their soldiers and dancing, rejoicing, saluting, and singing with them. The first Israeli hostages have been released and accepted without mishap (3 women), and the first Palestinian prisoners are in busses getting back to Gaza.  The aid trucks pouring in is a miracle to my eyes.  There are rumors of great amounts of Gulf States money for reconstruction.

The Spokesman of Hamas’ Al-Qassam Brigades, Abu Obaidah, thanked only 4 countries in his speech:

After over 15 months of brutal genocide, war and industrial level slaughter waged by the zionist entity against the Palestinian people in Gaza, a ceasefire is officially in effect. From what we can see, it is a shaky start to a fragile ceasefire after postponing the start time for three hours.  At least 19 Palestinians were killed and 36 wounded in Israeli attacks on Gaza during the nearly 3-hour Israeli delay to implement the truce.

Some zionist forces are generally in the process of withdrawing. There are also reports of continuing artillery fire and some airstrikes.  It looks like it wants to hold but it is exceedingly shaky.  Ben Gvir eventually quit the Knesset with his party.  Is this sufficient to get the government to fall?  We will see.  Netanyahu is probably going insane in a diagnosable clinical sense judging by his continual bellowing yesterday that this is a temporary ceasefire and that zion is “going back in,” and Trump and Biden confirmed that to him.  Even in the completely bombed-out state, we wish the Gazans as many moments of joy as possible.  Peace be upon you!

In the Kursk region, after the liberation of Porechny, fighters discovered evidence of brutal crimes committed by the Ukrainian army.  The bodies of tortured, tied-up elderly people were found in the basements.  The Ukrainian Armed Forces killed Russian elders who were not in their favor.  One can only guess how many more civilian lives were lost in the captured territories of the Kursk region.

Netanyahu has been throwing his toys out of his babybuggy all day long making speeches all day long.  Now ..

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that the Israeli army will increase its control over the Philadelphi Corridor and retain its occupation forces in key areas of Gaza, contradicting the agreed terms of the ceasefire deal. He claimed support from US Presidents Trump and Biden to resume the war if necessary and reiterated the Israeli regime’s refusal to move forward until Ham/as provides the full list of hostages set for release. Netanyahu insisted, “The battle is not over yet. We still have a long way to go.”

In response, Qatar summoned Israeli negotiators, accusing Netanyahu of breaching the agreement. The Israeli army has warned Palestinians to avoid buffer zones, the Netzarim Corridor, Rafah Crossing, and Gaza’s coastal areas where Israeli forces will remain during the first ceasefire phase. Protests erupted in Tel Aviv, with demonstrators demanding Netanyahu to fully implement the ceasefire deal. The future remains uncertain as the ceasefire is set to begin at 8:30 am on Sunday.

It is about 6 hours before the ceasefire is supposed to start.

Mediator Qatar: Gaza ceasefire agreement to take effect at 0630 GMT Sunday – 8:30 AM local time. It is 11.30am local at the time of writing, so less than 24 hours to go and if there is not a crazy that continues bombing, we should see some relief for the Gazans and in fact the Palestinians. At least 115 people were killed since the announcement of the ceasefire.   We still see open warfare.  The Yemenis responded with a massive launch of missiles a few hours ago, reportedly to Jerusalem, West Bank settlements, Tel Aviv, Ramla, and Lod.

Qatar’s Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani has disclosed that the recent Gaza deal signed by Israel had been on the table since December 2023, remaining unresolved for 13 months. “Thirteen months of wasted time, negotiating details that have no meaning and aren’t worth a single life lost in Gaza or any of the hostages,” he stated, criticizing the prolonged delay.

In from various sources: — Axios (spinmeisters) reports that Gaza ceasefire-hostage deal has been officially signed in Doha, making the deal now de jure official!

➡️ Israel’s security cabinet is set to meet Friday morning to vote on the deal, followed by a full government plenary vote on Saturday night. The ceasefire and hostage release are anticipated to take place on Monday.

➡️ A U.S. official said that on Wednesday night, after the deal was announced, there was a disagreement about the final list of Palestinian prisoners who are supposed to be released as part of the deal. Netanyahu wanted to add some prisoners.

➡️ Hamas demanded to swap several names on the list for military leaders of the militant group who are serving multiple life sentences for planning and orchestrating suicide bombings, Israeli and U.S. officials said. (Axios spinning). Hamas says if Israel wanted more, they wanted more and gave more names.

➡️ Israel had earlier used the veto it has as part of the deal to block their release but Hamas brought them up again as a new demand in the negotiations. (Axios spin).

What happened :
🔴 The reason for the crisis that occurred yesterday in the agreement is Netanyahu’s desire at the last minute to impose nine names of the injured Israeli prisoners on the agreed list.
🔴 Hamas agreed to Netanyahu’s request on condition that he include the names of prominent Palestinian prisoners in the first stage.
🔴 Among the prisoners that Hamas demanded to be included are Marwan Barghouti (known as the Palestinian Mandela) and Ahmed Saadat, in addition to a thousand civilian prisoners from Gaza.

We will know for sure who was part of the prisoners list by Saturday.

The disputes have been resolved.

As it turns out, there are no signatures on paper yet for the ceasefire deal. Netanyahu refused to sign, saying that Hamas reneged on the deal. These few days to the 19th is going to appear as slow as years and we may as well remain on the edge of our seats. It is just bad faith negotiation tactics and Bibi is only trying to look good to Ben Gvir and Smotrich, who he lied to. He told everyone that the first phase is only a phase and that Israel would return to war afterward. And then the penny dropped. Qatar, Egypt, and the United States issued a joint statement calling the Gaza ceasefire permanent.  The israelis realized that they lost against Hamas. Reactions from Israeli regime officials and media to ceasefire deal in Gaza are a mix of outrage and disillusionment.   Now Bibi is in trouble as he has to face his accusers in court for a raft of misdeeds.

Hamas dismissed Netanyahu’s claims of reneging on the deal and said they are committed to the ceasefire agreement announced by mediators. As could be expected, israel wants to kill Palestinians till the last moment before the ceasefire, and they are indeed still committing massacres.

This is not reducing the joy of the region, the world, and the Palestinians one iota. The bigger background is that people like Ilan Pappe and others are publishing research that israel is on the verge of imploding as an erstwhile state. Groups like Middle Nation are working on their initiative to remove israel from the United Nations, and that initiative is only growing.  Will israel fall off the escalation ladder first?

The Houthis announced that with the achievement of a Gaza ceasefire, their attacks on Israel have come to an end.

It is most heartening that despite these last-minute efforts at illustrating that the tribe is non-agreement capable and non-civilized, aid trucks are non-stop pouring into Gaza, with food, medicines, field hospitals, and reconstruction materials.

There are three schools of thought overall. The first is that a ceasefire will not hold, and the second one is that there is hope. The third is that if we can only get food and materials into Gaza, even if it is only for now, it will be successful – this is where I stand for now. Al Mayadeen obtains the terms of the phase I ceasefire agreement in Gaza:

– Full withdrawal towards the border from all areas of the Gaza Strip.

– Opening of the Rafah Crossing, and Complete Withdrawal from It.

– Travel of the wounded for treatment abroad.

– 600 aid trucks will be allowed to enter daily, as part of a humanitarian protocol sponsored by the State of Qatar.

– 200,000 tents and 60,000 caravans to be brought in for urgent shelter.

– Prisoner Exchange, Release of 1,000 Prisoners from the Gaza Strip, and Hundreds of Prisoners Sentenced to Life and High Sentences.

– Clearing the occupation prisons of all women and children under 19 years old.

– Israeli withdrawal from the Netzarim corridor and the Philadelphi corridor gradually.

– The return of all displaced persons to their areas of residence, and freedom of movement throughout the Gaza Strip.

– Absence of aircraft over Gaza for 8-10 hours daily.

– Rehabilitation of all hospitals, introduction of field hospitals, medical and surgical teams to Gaza.

– The first phase will last 6 weeks, in exchange for the delivery of 33 Israeli prisoners, including living and dead bodies. This will be completed in the second and third phases to negotiate the remaining 66 prisoners held by the resistance.

– On the 7th day, the displaced from southern Gaza will return to the north without inspection, after the Zionist military withdraws from Rashid Street to the depth of the Netzarim axis, and the people of Gaza will have freedom of movement north and south of Gaza via Rashid Street.

– On the 22nd day, the Zionist military will withdraw from the entire Netzarim axis, to the east of Salah al-Din Street, and people will have freedom of movement.

It looks like the ceasefire deal has been signed. Reports of Netanyahu imminently addressing his ‘nation’ and Hamas, Islamic Jihad, approving the Gaza ceasefire and captive exchange deal, and the Qatari prime minister holding a presser to announce the deal.  We have to wait a little more, as there is a timing problem.  Some sources are still posting older information … We wait till a formal announcement from a formal source.

Visible:  The majority of Israeli troops are seen withdrawing from the Salahuddeen Axis – the first major sign of an imminent ceasefire.  Israeli forces are beginning to leave the Philadelphi Corridor.

U.S. President Joe Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will both give a speech today.

There will be a press conference in Doha tonight, led by the Qatari Prime Minister.

Hamas’ delegation, led by Khalil Al-Hayya, has officially delivered the approval of the ceasefire to the mediators Egypt and Qatar – Hamas to Al Jazeera

A Gaza ceasefire agreement has been reached and a joint statement will be issued soon, Egyptian media report, citing a source.

Trump said:  “We have a deal for the hostages in the Middle East.  They will be released shortly.  Thank You!”  He may be holding himself to a comment on the hostages because of not being in office yet.  Based on this, he may have another plan and some are already saying it is a tactical breather for Israel.

We may report in the next few hours that THE WAR IN GAZA IS OVER. This slice of time is terrifying. On the one hand, it is real; on the other, I am in cold fear that someone will drop the ball.

This EPIC ceasefire agreement could have only happened as a result of our Historic Victory in November, as it signaled to the entire World that my Administration would seek Peace and negotiate deals to ensure the safety of all Americans, and our Allies. I am thrilled American and Israeli hostages will be returning home to be reunited with their families and loved ones.

With this deal in place, my National Security team, through the efforts of Special Envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, will continue to work closely with Israel and our Allies to make sure Gaza NEVER again becomes a terrorist safe haven. We will continue promoting PEACE THROUGH STRENGTH throughout the region, as we build upon the momentum of this ceasefire to further expand the Historic Abraham Accords. “The diplomats will also be required to obtain written authorization from our Foreign Ministry to travel more than 40 kilometers from Plaza Bolivar in Caracas, ensuring the strict fulfillment of their duties. Venezuela demands respect for sovereignty and self-determination, principles established in the United Nations Charter, particularly from those who are subordinate to Washington’s directives.”

Mediators have informed Israel that there is a delay in Hamas’s final response to the hostage-ceasefire deal.

This seems to be the delay: A senior delegation from Palestine’s Islamic Jihad Movement arrives in Doha late Tuesday to participate in finalizing Gaza deal. Also, Reuters citing Resistance official: Hamas has not yet delivered its response to mediators yet because “Israel” did not submit maps of its forces’ withdrawal from Gaza.

Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson: “We are now at the closest point to reaching an agreement on Gaza and expect the announcement of the agreement to be made soon.”

Hamas: “We have conducted a series of consultations with Palestinian faction leaders, updating them on the progress of ongoing negotiations in Doha. The movement’s leadership and various factions emphasized the importance of continued dialogue until the ceasefire agreement and prisoner exchange, now in its final stages, are concluded.”

Israeli media outlet Ynetnews reports that U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has assured Netanyahu that Israel can resume military operations in Gaza after signing a ceasefire agreement with Hamas.

This assurance includes retroactive support for Israel if it decides to violate the truce. Additionally, Trump has promised to lift sanctions on the Israeli spyware company NSO Group and to permit continued Israeli settlement activities in the occupied West Bank.

A gas tanker caught fire on the outskirts of Kazan, but no casualties were reported, the press service of the Tatarstan leader said. Two enterprises in Saratov and Engels also sustained damage, Governor Roman Busargin reported.

– Air defenses downed 16 UAVs over the Tula Region, the area’s head Dmitry Milyayev said on his Telegram channel.

– Air defense systems and radio-electronic warfare forces neutralized and suppressed 14 drones in the Rostov Region. No casualties occurred, acting governor Yury Slyusar reported on his Telegram channel.

– A UAV attack alert was issued in the Samara Region, the regional Emergencies Ministry directorate said.

– Air defense and radio-electronic warfare systems shot down several UAVs over the Voronezh Region. No casualties or damage were reported, Governor Alexander Gusev said on his Telegram channel.

– Russian air defenses downed 17 Ukrainian drones overnight over the Oryol Region. No casualties or damage were observed, regional governor Andrey Klychkov said on his Telegram channel.

– Several cars, outbuildings, and windows of a residential house were damaged as a result of the UAV attack in the Tula Region.

Word from the ‘peace’ negotiations is from the one side (Israeli) that the negotiators are far from reaching any kind of consensus. Word from Hamas is that they want every jot and tittle underlined and clearly defined.

Israeli Press: Remaining points of contention on a hostage deal (according to media reports): Hamas’s demand that Israel withdraw from the Gaza-Egypt border (Philadelphi Corridor) and commit to a permanent ceasefire rather than a temporary cessation of military operations.  Both of these demands are intended to end the war in a manner that enables Hamas to rebuild and remain in control of Gaza.  Hamas intends to wave the outcome of this impending deal like a banner of “victory.”

(Of course it will be a victory, as Hamas is still fighting and causing ‘serious security incidents’, which is code for IDF soldiers injured and killed and, Hamas is supposed to be non-existent – here they are, taking part in negotiations where they are not giving an inch).

It’s official: Kremlin confirms Putin-Pezeshkian talks to be held on 17 January

Russian President Vladimir Putin will hold talks with President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Masoud Pezeshkian during the latter’s official visit to Russia.

The leaders will discuss prospects for further expansion of bilateral cooperation in the spheres of trade, investment, transport, logistics, and humanitarian issues, as well as key matters on the regional and international agenda.

After the talks, Putin and Peseshkian will sign a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement between Russia and Iran and offer statements to the press.

China is engaging in “acts that burden US commerce”.   US probe finds China unfairly dominates shipbuilding

US President Joe Biden’s administration has concluded that China uses unfair policies and practices to dominate the global maritime, logistics and shipbuilding sectors.  US Trade Representative launched the probe at the request of the United Steelworkers and four other US unions under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974, which allows the US to penalize foreign countries that engage in acts that burden US commerce.

Investigators concluded that China targeted the shipbuilding industry for dominance, using financial support, barriers for foreign firms, forced technology transfer and intellectual property theft and procurement policies to give its shipbuilding and maritime industry an advantage.
