Brazil : Governance from Brasilia or from Washington – The day has arrived.
The day has arrived:

What do you think? Can we call it?
90% Counted

Nevertheless, counting has started. Brazil has a very fast and very automatic system. Results are usually out within hours of the election. This is a count, but we have to wait until all the craziness has been sorted out.
Breaking: Supreme Court Minister Zanin has extended voting in entire country by two hours until 7pm, as a result of the deliberate sabotage of public transport provision by Bolsonaro allies.
Many polling stations have closed at 5pm regardless of Supreme Court order. Brazilwire calls attempted coup. “I WANT TO VOTE! I WANT TO VOTE!” Despite Supreme Court order to extend, polling stations closed anyway as Bolsonarista Electoral Court president Kassio Nunes ignored the order. Millions have been intentionally denied their democratic right to vote.
🚨Urgent: Public transport is being sabotaged across the country on election day to prevent voting in Lula majority areas. Buses not running, multiple airlines cancelling entire schedules unexpectedly leaving voters unable to return to the Northeast and vote.
Lula campaign has requested that Electoral Court extend voting hours in Salvador and São Paulo due to the intentional limitation of public transport by Bolsonarista local authorities. Other cities may follow.
Breaking: PT has requested that São Paulo Mayor’s transport and mobility secretary be arrested for the same reason. Bahia Regional Electoral Court (TRE-BA) orders the arrest of Salvador’s Bolsonarista Municipal Secretary of Mobility, Pablo Souza, for deliberately hindering voters ability to reach polling stations
Jerônimo, the governor of Bahia, has requested that police drive the 252 out-of-service buses in Salvador so that the population can vote.
Another: Pará Ferry boats limited. The sabotage of public transport on election day in who knows how many cities will affect millions of votes.
Another: João Pessoa, Paraíba. Voters complaining that bus services have been cut to impede access to polling stations. Same pattern as Salvador, São Paulo, São Gonçalo.
Another: João Pessoa, Paraíba. Voters complaining that bus services have been cut to impede access to polling stations. Same pattern as Salvador, São Paulo, São Gonçalo.
“URGENT AND SERIOUS: REPORTS THAT CITY HALLS IN SP AND SALVADOR REDUCED THE NUMBER OF BUSES ON THE STREETS, MAKING IT DIFFICULT FOR VOTERS TO CAST THEIR BALLOTS. MAYORS DENY. PT CALLS FOR ARREST OF SALVADOR’S MAYOR. RUI COSTA SAYS HE IS A CRIMINAL.”

Nearly 159 million Brazilians are eligible to elect their next president, who will take office on Jan. 5, 2027. Polling stations will be open for nine hours, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. local time. Results will be known on Sunday, thanks to the country’s efficient electronic voting system.
🌎 A note from Saker Latinoamérica: Quantum Bird here.
A special note for the naive and the unwary: the latest electoral cycle in Brazil—regardless of its outcome—has at least served one useful purpose. It has unmasked a collection of actors (“ex-communists turned ‘sovereignists,'” commentators, columnists, and pseudo-geopolitical analysts) who, until literally last week, were radical defenders of Brazilian sovereignty, but are now declaring their support for a candidate who openly positions himself as an agent for the U.S. and Israel in the region. Personally, I have taken to calling these figures “geo-influencers,” as they engage in the same type of activity as their counterparts on platforms like “OnlyTrouxas” [a play on “OnlyFans,” with “trouxas” meaning “suckers/fools”], only within the thematic realm of geopolitics.
Quantum Bird brought awareness of the region and on a pragmatic note for today, we all hope that LULA wins. That is however not the end of the story in the Latin American and Caribbean Region. Here is an article that was posted on Naked Capitalism by Nick Corbishly that draws the picture for us step by step. For today however, we hope that LULA wins and tomorrow the hard work for the region starts again.

We see the geo-influencers everywhere over social medias. Thanks for that apt word Quantum Bird!

Lula vs. Bolsonaro: I was held in solitary confinement for 1,901 days for revealing the truth about the U.S. government’s killings and espionage, including against Brazil and its industries. Out of power, Lula fought for my freedom. In power, Lula discussed my persecution with Pope Francis, who decided to meet with my family and offer help. After my release, Lula and I met in Rome to mourn the Holy Father’s passing. Lula was kind to my children and asked for nothing in return. In contrast, Jair and Flávio Bolsonaro did nothing and said nothing. Yet without the ability to say no to Washington and Tel Aviv, there can be no domestic policy, only foreign instructions. Those orders are always the same: “Expand our theft of resources and wages, and keep your mouths shut about us murdering children.” Sellouts will surrender everything in exchange for a cut, even their own tongues.
