Time for a Global Axis of Resistance
– Nora Hoppe and Tariq Marzbaan – Al Mayadeen English
The Global Dichotomy
Since 28th February 2026, an unequivocal dichotomy has cleaved the world into two distinct spheres: two axes. There is no middle ground. States and individuals alike belong to one axis or the other. Those who dispute this are simply betrayed by their actions.
Three cataclysmic incidents have forged this divide: (1) the NATO-provoked war in Ukraine; (2) the ongoing genocide in Gaza; and (3) the fresh, heinous war of aggression unleashed by the United States and its client extension, the Zionist entity, against the Islamic Republic of Iran – a war long on the drawing board (see: PNAC). These three events are significant indicators of humanity’s potential imminent end.
The Two Axes
The centuries-old racist-colonialist essence of western imperialism – amplified over recent postmodern decades by the ruthless ambitions of the Anglo-American-Zionist alliance – has degenerated into total lawlessness and barbarism. It has become a blind and unfettered force of inconceivable savagery, forming the foundation of what we call the Axis of Barbarism.
This Axis has not only wreaked havoc on other civilizations, nations, and peoples; it has also destroyed the noble cultural and humanistic achievements of its own past. Despising all that is human, it embraces post-humanism, divorcing itself from human civilization entirely. Despising all that is natural and life-affirming, it thrives on destruction, depravity, deceit, and mendacity. This is well-documented, not least in the partial release of the “Epstein Files” – whose implicit “value system,” corroborated by countless historical accounts, characterises the moral foundation of this axis. Its chief goal is world supremacy and exclusive power, a motive made manifest in all three of the aforementioned incidents.
In opposition stands the original Axis of Resistance. This network, founded in Iran with the IRGC at its core, is built upon shiite-religious thinkers and ideologues like Ali Shariati’s and Ayatollah Khomeini’s notions of the “solidarity of the oppressed” (a concept inspired, among others, by Cuba). Today, it embraces Hezbollah, Ansar Allah, Hamas, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), and the Islamic Resistance in Iraq (including Kata’ib Hezbollah, Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq, and Harakat al-Nujaba).
[Note: The term “Axis of Resistance” was first coined by the Libyan daily Al-Zahf Al-Akhdar in response to US president George W. Bush’s “axis of evil” claim. Its 2002 article, “Axis of Evil or Axis of Resistance”, said “the only common denominator among Iran, Iraq, and North Korea is their resistance to US hegemony”.]
The War and “the Sides”
Today, the Axis of Barbarism, led by the Hegemon, the United States, is at war with any and all forms of resistance to its dominion. Since the beginning of this year, we have witnessed an intensification of this aggression: the kidnapping of a head of state (President Nicolás Maduro) and the declared plunder of Venezuela; announced plans to subsume Cuba, Colombia, Mexico, Greenland, and even Canada; attacks in Nigeria; the assassination attempt on President Putin via a drone strike on his residence in Novgorod; and the suppression of the Hegemon’s own citizens through ist SA-like ICE militia – to name but a few.
Some may wish to define the divide as “the West against the Rest”. But this cannot be reduced to political geography. Others may claim the Hegemon’s war on Iran is a war between Judeo-Christianity and Islam, but it cannot be reduced to religion. These descriptions capture only partial aspects of the conflict and, if taken in isolation, become misleading. They would deplete any organised form of resistance because…
…sadly, there are those within “the Rest” (the Global Majority) who apparently support the goals of the Anglo-American-Zionist alliance. Let us name a few who have recently exposed themselves:
- signatories of the “Abraham Accords”: leaders of the UAE, Bahrain, Morocco, Sudan, Kazakhstan
- India’s racist Hindutva PM Modi in his nauseating and obsequious meeting with child-killer, war criminal Netanyahu on 26th February
- from the so-called “Global South” – including Indonesia, Mongolia, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkey, and Vietnam – present at the self-proclaimed emperor Trump’s “Board of Peace” (let us not forget President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s abhorrent grovelling eulogy: “I would also like to propose to establish a special President Trump’s award of the Board of Peace to recognise his outstanding peacebuilding efforts and achievements. I am confident that under your, Mr. President, strong leadership the Board will successfully deliver its great noble mission”
- the overriding majority of the “Iranian diaspora”, such as those Teherangeles-Types celebrating the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader Khamenei near the White House, alongside their pathetic “clown prince” Pahlavi Junior mourning three dead US soldiers, silent on 160+ schoolgirls killed
- UN secretary general Gutierrez, who at the recent UNSC meeting, condemning Iran’s “attacks on neighbouring countries” – which as secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Ali Larijani, explained were attacks on US bases – i.e. “US soil”
- Lebanon’s Prime Minister Nawaf Salam who has consistently sided with the Zionist entity, condemning Hezbollah’s resistance and demanding they disarm
- the fifth columns within Iran, Russia, and elsewhere – whose numbers are not negligible
- those passive states and individuals who fail to condemn the crimes of the Anglo-American-Zionist alliance
These assorted lackeys of the supremacist “elite,” exhibiting no moral spine, desperately hope to gain favour from their masters. Duped by a global economic system that promotes addictive consumerism, egoism, and apathy, they are devoid of responsibility and conscience. The neoliberal, postmodern zeitgeist has rendered them zombies.
Despite all our international institutions, state-of-the-art communication, and enormous technological advancements, the perpetrators and supporters of the Gaza Genocide remain unstoppable, unbreakable, and untouchable. Passive onlookers are enablers. The United States, seeing itself endowed with unrestricted freedom and free rein – with no need to abide by international law or its own constitution – will continue its rampage until it is disabled. Until it is disabled. Until it is disabled.
The Death of the UN
The UN died when it proved powerless to stop a globally flagrant genocide that continues to this day with excruciating protraction. And, like those who insist on beating a dead horse, the nauseating UNSC meeting on 1st March, 2026, confirmed that the institution will not be reborn.
The treatment of UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese following her factual reports on the Gaza Genocide is merely further evidence of the extinction of the very concept of a “United Nations.”
The supremacist “elite” of the Anglo-American-Zionist alliance and their lackeys are delusional fanatics; their goals transcend wishful thinking into a realm that abhors reality. They even dream of reintroducing slavery and classical colonialism – as evidenced by Marco Rubio’s fatuous speech at the Munich Security Conference.
Those who question the official narratives or expose them and oppose them are sanctioned, vilified, oppressed and even arrested and imprisoned in defiance of national and international laws (Francesca Albanese, Jaques Baud, Natali Yam, Mahdieh Esfaniari and …). The current state of the Western world under the Hegemon meets all the criteria of fascism.
As with any irrational, crazed interlocutor, communication and exchanges are impossible. Most UN members seem unaware of this, or they would stop beating a dead horse.
The Invalidity of other organisations in today’s circumstances
Anti-hegemonic organisations such as the BRICS and the SCO have not been and will not be able to vigorously and decisively counter the Axis of Barbarism. They do not form a unified bloc; within their ranks are those (such as PM Modi) who are obviously and provocatively colluding with the Hegemon and its Zionist murder gangs. In an official statement of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization dated 2nd March “regarding the situation around the Islamic Republic of Iran”, the SCO patronisingly advocated for diplomacy and called on all parties “to exercise restraint”!
The focus of these organisations has always been on trade, on technical advancements, on business, on diplomacy. They have never squarely addressed the plight of the oppressed. They display no understanding of the meaning of struggle. The future of humanity has never been a topic for discussion.
Caught between countless analyses from political analysts and activists regarding these organizations’ roles, and the mendacious propaganda of the “Axis of Barbarism” that condemns them, the average person is left overwhelmed and intimidated by a cacophony of conflicting voices. A feeling of unprecedented powerlessness and abandonment spreads. In such moments, people need clear, strong, and decisive leadership and backing.
Iran, the Great Gate for the survival of humanity
As we warned in our recent essay on Iran: Iran: Guardian at the Gate of Sovereign Nations, “should the sovereign will of Iran be broken, the gate will crumble, and the long night of hegemony will descend upon all nations”.
Now, as the Hegemon’s baseless war of aggression rams that Gate and pushes our planet to the brink, sovereign states and any individual who believes in a just and equitable world must defend it. Now. Iran may well be the ultimate battle.
If states and people of the world wish to survive, they must decide which side they are on. Again, there is no middle ground.
What Is to Be Done
Renowned economist and political analyst Professor Michael Hudson proposes “a Nurenberg-scale trial against the Western military policy…” or ”a restructuring of the United Nations to end the U.S. ability to block majority resolutions”.
The first proposal presupposes a unitary union of states capable of undertaking such a task. The second would require all so-called “major powers” to relinquish their veto rights. In any case, the UN must be fundamentally reformed and restructured – if not completely dissolved and re-established from scratch.
This cannot happen overnight. And who could undertake such a task? The leaders of states (within BRICS and beyond) act according to their theoretical or perceived “national interests,” or out of ideological and class interests, or even personal corruption.
However, if a majority of people globally raise their voices and offer active, decisive, and effective resistance, their governments and politicians could be forced to act in their favour. Now. Because every hesitation, every wrong decision, will now have fatal consequences for all of humanity.
Professor Hudson’s proposals are absolutely on target, but they are not easy to implement. It is now incumbent upon each individual to recognise the gravity of this hour and to act accordingly.
We therefore believe it is time for people of the world to organise and join the existing Axis of Resistance – to create a truly Global Axis of Resistance.
