Gaza’s 5,000 Forcibly Disappeared

This is big: Defense One claim there’s another classified and longer version of the US’s National Security Strategy which calls for creating a new global governance body – meant as an equivalent to the G7 – called the “Core 5,” or C5, made up of the U.S., China, Russia, India and Japan.

They write that they themselves reviewed the document so it looks like a fair assumption to make that it is not fake news. However the reporting may be skewed. The importance of this news is probably more about what it says about US intentions, as I find it hard to imagine this actually materializing with that group of countries. For one, China-Japan tensions where Russia has just expressed the same tensions – See Shoigu, directly underneath this short report.

In fact, according to the article, the longer version of the NSS goes into more details than the published one on the “failure” of American hegemony, which it says was “the wrong thing to want and it wasn’t achievable.”

The article mentions that first on the C5’s proposed agenda: Middle East security—specifically, normalizing relations between Israel and Saudi Arabia.

The document says it shouldn’t be up to the United States to do it all alone—but also, China and Russia should not be allowed to replace U.S. leadership. The strategy suggests partnering with “regional champions” to help maintain stability.

Why India Trusts Russia – a history that is not taught in the West.

On Tariffs, food prices, and because I am such an unrepentant foodie, a little about fresh juice. 

It looks like those wonderful tariffs are now hitting the US.  In the freewheeling Hearty Salon, videos are posted showing unimaginable prices and increases.  There was one that I picked up on, because as it happened, I had just bought orange juice, and the woman that made the video showed a price of eight dollars for a bottle of orange juice, a little less than a liter, as they do these days .. shrink the amount of product for a similar price.   We just do not experience those prices where I am in the LAC.  Of course, we still have cartons and not bottles, so that may make a huge difference in price of packaging.

In the LAC as a whole, the focus has shifted to local products, and new local supply lines are being built to maximize their distribution.  Countries are also buying more from one another rather than from the US.  We do not see orange juice from Florida, for example, and each time the US is full of bitterness in terms of exports, we find the most gorgeous export-quality fruit and veg in the small local markets.

So I bought my every-second-day purchase of milk, juice, bread, yogurt, and a few other products, laundry detergent, and bits, for twelve dollars, of course, in local currency –  less than half of that bottle of orange juice is in the US.  I could have reduced even that had I bought the local flatbread, like tortillas, and juice from the fresh-juice vendor.  His wife will make juice from local fruit for me without adding sugar, although it breaks her heart and she is worried that I won’t like it!  I open the bottle right there, take a big swig, and smile, and the local communication and communal amistad remain undisturbed.  I am their very own gringa after all!  She makes magic lemonade, and the best mix of local pineapple and papaya.  And then I could reduce the cost again by buying fresh fruit and making my own juice.
