UN General Assembly – 24 September 2025 & first day update

This is the stream for today, if you’d like to pick up a speech or two.  At this moment, I don’t see the sequence of speakers – perhaps they will update it soon.

Update from Day 1

Shifting – first UNGA day

We have a few things that are moving. So far at the UNGA meeting, everyone says that the zionist-israeli war againt the Palestinians cannot be tolerated any longer. Everyone knows that action is now required.

At UNGA, most discussions and speeches have elements of the following:

– war against the Palestinians that has to stop as well as the other wars and Netanyahu’s immeasurable damage against the region as a whole
– for Russia against Ukraine
– for Ukraine against Russia
– climate change

There is no indication that this will change as the presentations at UNGA continue.

The “Be Better” slogan is generally ignored. If I compare it with last year, it is a much more serious gathering, and so far, speakers seem to understand that the UN itself is in the process of losing influence, and the wars in the world cannot continue. Last year, everyone was delivering flowery speeches about the conference theme, which primarily centered on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Summit of the Future. I critiqued it at the time as relatively worthless.

The Hague Group — a global bloc of states committed to “coordinated legal and diplomatic measures” in defense of international law and solidarity with the people of Palestine are engaged in a multilateral effort to rescue the system of international law from the risk of impunity for the crimes committed during Israel’s 700-day assault on Gaza. On 26 September — while Benjamin Netanyahu, representing the State of Israel, takes the floor of the General Assembly — The Hague Group will hold a Ministerial meeting to present collective and coordinated measures being implemented at national and international levels.

The results of and commentary on Trump’s stream-of-consciousness speech are incredibly negative.   A few hours after his speech, this appeared on Truth Social: (I added paragraphs and sentence breaks as it was one long wall of text, and bolding is mine),

Donald J. Trump@realDonaldTrump

After getting to know and fully understand the Ukraine/Russia Military and Economic situation and, after seeing the Economic trouble it is causing Russia, I think Ukraine, with the support of the European Union, is in a position to fight and WIN all of Ukraine back in its original form.

With time, patience, and the financial support of Europe and, in particular, NATO, the original Borders from where this War started, is very much an option. Why not?

Russia has been fighting aimlessly for three and a half years a War that should have taken a Real Military Power less than a week to win. This is not distinguishing Russia. In fact, it is very much making them look like “a paper tiger.”

When the people living in Moscow, and all of the Great Cities, Towns, and Districts all throughout Russia, find out what is really going on with this War, the fact that it’s almost impossible for them to get Gasoline through the long lines that are being formed, and all of the other things that are taking place in their War Economy, where most of their money is being spent on fighting Ukraine, which has Great Spirit, and only getting better, Ukraine would be able to take back their Country in its original form and, who knows, maybe even go further than that!

Putin and Russia are in BIG Economic trouble, and this is the time for Ukraine to act. In any event, I wish both Countries well. We will continue to supply weapons to NATO for NATO to do what they want with them. Good luck to all!

DONALD J. TRUMP, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA —-

Our Smoothie was quick to comment: “Russian economy is in terrible shape and that is why combined NATO shits its pants while thinking about why it is outproduced by order magnitude, especially in terms of SMART high-precision weaponry. ”

Francesca Albanese commented: “We must recognise Pres. Trump for his visionary speech: unmatched imagination, pure stream-of-consciousness, the rare gift of saying whatever comes to mind, on anything, to anyone. A masterclass for sociology, international relations, and political science. Just hardly any law in it.”

It is difficult to discern what Trump is saying in this Truth Social Post, and even more challenging to decide whether to believe him or not. The negative consequences of his dictatorial-trying to be-humorous speech, first roasting the UN and then roasting everyone else, playing King of the world and he knows everything, praising himself, making peace in seven wars, deserving of the Nobel Peace Prize, and the litany of  his so-called wins in his administration so far, evidently became too much for people to swallow. It was vintage Trump, but the ending was too much. If the rest of the world works with the US, everyone will have the successes of the US, I kid you not. Everyone was warned that they will fail and their countries will fail if they do not partner with the US. The fact that he streamed self-congratulatory consciousness for roughly four times the recommended 15-minute time limit just irritated people. Trump says he came to the UNGA to offer “the hand of American leadership and friendship” to any nation ready to partner with the US in creating a safer, more prosperous, and ultimately happier world, declaring that “dramatically better futures are within our reach.” He is also going to work on biological weapons and sort those out with AI, and solve nuclear weapons. He also called for an end to the War on Gaza and said he will still do it; he will end that one. He concluded with a call to defend national borders, cultural traditions, and Christianity, and to build a better, more prosperous world jointly. I think he also threatened to sanction Russia. As we say, he did not read the room, and after LULA’s passionate presentation, this was all gaslighting from start to finish. Opinions about climate change are outdated, and he knows nothing about China’s complex power structures, which are carefully designed to utilize multiple systems appropriate for the region. He only knows Green is Bad and cannot differentiate between the scam and the reality of climate change.

Yes, as I suspected, we are seeing changes toward multipolarity in the speeches of the delegates. How it will present during the rest of the week is an open question. Will the efforts for the Palestinians bear fruit? Globally zionist-isreal and the wars are now rejected.

With this truth social post, he may be stepping outside of the Russian-Ukraine war, but evidently still rooting for Ukraine while roasting Russia. He has angered the Global South, the Civilizational Countries, BRICS, SCO, and the rest of the world, which he has not angered yet.

His announced meeting with LULA da Silva next week fell flat. The requirements for this meeting were that the press had to be present, and LULA’s people were angered.  They rejected the meeting on the basis that they or LULA would not be treated in the same manner as people Trump has treated during his supposed open negotiations. They made it clear that they are not interested in being mocked by Trump and his press.

Rubio jumped in and tried to restate:

Speaking on NBC’s Today Show on Tuesday, Rubio replied that it is “not up to us to end the war” when asked why the conflict continues despite Trump’s repeated promises to end it “on day one” of his new administration. “The Russians have to stop the war and the Ukrainians have to agree to a peace deal,” he added.

Ending the conflict is still a “priority” for the Trump administration, Rubio maintained. When asked about Washington’s alleged reluctance to impose new sanctions on Russia, the secretary of state said the US would like to retain the role of a “broker” in the conflict for as long as possible.

There was a continuance of this, saying that Trump may supply Ukraine with offensive weapons, but classify them as defensive.

A few comments from across the world, and they are rough:

I’ve always said that Trump is a shuddering asshole, and I’m still shocked. I’ve said it before, he believes the last thing that he heard the most.

Feces dripping from his mouth.

Trump says the UN is creating new problems for the US to “solve”. He also says they fund illegal aliens to enter the US.

He turned off the PlayStation.

So Trump urges shit, he said nothing, this is just the norm.

Trump encourages Ukraine to keep fighting, but seems content to sit back and watch. 🤔 Keep betraying your base, you walking talking meme.

Trump reckons Ukraine can ‘take back their country…and maybe even GO FURTHER’. Remember how Kursk went…

Here is a Zelensky one: Trump trusted Putin for information. ‘Now he trusts me…and my intelligence’.

Trump turns full neocon: ‘Ukraine can win back all territory’

In a sudden shift, Trump declares on Truth Social that Ukraine — with EU/NATO support — should fight to restore its original borders and “maybe even go further.”

The Trump part is over now.  If he wanted to speak first to set a tone, he failed.  Now we wait for serious speakers.

The Global Times reported:

The US president’s return to the UN rostrum coincides with multiple media coverage of the US’ substantial unpaid dues. As The Washington Post highlighted in a report on Monday, “Trump starves [the] UN of funding, as global body faces cash crunch.” Similarly, a Bloomberg report was headlined “Trump heads to UN gathering facing billions in unpaid dues.” The report said the US has accrued over $3 billion in arrears.

Bloomberg noted that if the US continues to refuse payment, the country could lose its vote at the UNGA. The UN charter stipulates such a punishment for countries whose arrears exceed the amount they were supposed to pay in the previous two years.

The eighth war Drumpft needs to end is the one between the hegemon and Venezuela.
I suppose that is one of those he is working on.

Imagine if the UN takes Drumpft’s words to heart and does more about Gaza than a strongly worded letter. If not Drumpft, the Ziobandercons in Congress and his misadministration will be howling.

Finally watched Guterres and Lula and started watching Drumpft. About three minutes in and I am wondering what audience he is addressing. World leaders and their citizens or Americans and campaigning for a third term or for Vance? If it was all true it would be a great speech, but… Read more »

You can already tell by the fact that a former terrorist puts on a suit and is now considered the president of S. and allowed to speak there. If this organization had anything to do with international law, he should be arrested.

I would like to say that the global community will eventually establish a League of Nations that is not dependent on money but is solely committed to international law. The UN is none of that; it was established to oppose the German Empire because no international peace treaty exists, and… Read more »

Maybe Goldfinger sounds more deranged than normal since he’s reading from a frozen script.  Biden had the same brain burp: he kept saying in Poland of March 2022 that “the ruble is rubble” long after it recovered..  Now Orange says “the long [gasoline] lines that are being formed” because the… Read more »

When Trump claims that the UN is corrupt, is he not right!? How many wars have occurred since World War II that violate international law – Libya, Iraq, Syria … all under the watch of the UN. The USA controlled the UN because they were the largest contributor and could… Read more »

Amarynth, a peace treaty for World War I could only be signed by the German Emperor Empire. But the Treaty of Versailles was not an international law peace treaty. And after the so-called World War II, the German Empire was overshadowed by another construct, which has never been able to… Read more »

Thanks for the livestream…
There has already been a lot of reactions on the peculiar tweet of the Donald, but I got a fine smile of this one of Margarita Simonyan.
If you read this, have a good recovery Margarita.
Cheers, Rob

The Colombian president is a great man and the European “leaders” must sink into the ground in shame during such a speech.
