New Year Protest

Armed with his weapon of choice, a guitar with the words “This Machine Kills Fascists” painted on it, Woody Guthrie was a pivotal contributor to the canon of protest tunes. He composed nearly 3,000 songs, many of which remained unpublished. The Israeli army officially announced the arrest of 240 Palestinian patients and medical staff out of 500 who were inside Kamal Adwan Hospital, claiming they are “terrorist operatives” including the hospital director, Dr. Hussam Abu Safiyeh.  Dr Safiyeh was beaten.

The US-israeli massacre at Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahiya, Gaza, reached a horrifying peak with confirmed reports of a violent raid by Israeli occupation forces. Yesterday morning, the hospital was stormed, leading to the forced evacuation of ambulatory patients, medical staff, and civilians. Patients were taken off oxygen and other life saving equipment and left in the courtyard with ambulances promised to them by the zionist soldiers, but these ambulances of course did not arrive – it was a zionist soldier joke. The hospital staff and ambulatory patients were made to take off their outer clothes and start walking to Gaza City.

I’ve followed the regular updates from Dr Kamal Abu Safiya, asking for help for the hospital as it has been bombed and hit in one way or another for months now. Contact has been lost with the hospital staff, Dr Kamal Safiya and the ambulatory patients.  The last standing hospital in North Gaza was then burnt down in sections, with remaining staff and patients.

Dr. Kamal is a warrior who can be counted in the same league as Shaheed Haniyeh and Yahya Sinwaar. Dr. Kamal was previously abducted, assaulted, and paraded, but he returned. Upon his return, he saw his eight-year-old son shattered into pieces. He buried his son near the wall of the hospital and returned to his services.

Dr. Kamal did everything he could to secure Kamal Adwan Hospital. He spoke out regularly, sent out SOS calls, and worked.  Alongside his small staff, he managed to help thousands of Northern Gazans who, in a war zone, had no doctor other than him.
